Please make sure that the area in front of your mailbox is clear enough from snow so that the mailman can pull up easily in front of your box. The snow plows try and get * as close as they can, but it is our responsibility to clear the rest, so as to assure that mail delivery will continue uninterrupted. Also, it is most important that all cars are kept off the streets while plowing is being done. It is next to impossible to plow ef fectively when there are parked or abandoned cars blocking the plow from coming straight down the street. Every effort is being made to keep our village streets clear of snow, in order to make your driving safer and easier, so we must all cooperate in aiding this work. PLOWING FOR SENIORS A reminder that snow plowing is available for senior citizen residents of McHenry Shores. Please call or come in to the village hall during business hours. POLICE REPORT On Tuesday, Jan. 5, at approximately 8:30 p.ln., Donald Kaminski of 3212 W. Terrace, here in McHenry Shores, reported a fire at his residence. Both Mr. and Mrs. Kaminski were able to exit without injury, Units of McHenry Fire Department Company 1 and 2 responded very quickly and were able to contain the fire to the east half of the residence over the garage. The cause of the fire is under investigation by McHenry Fire District Fire Chief Glenn Peterson. At this time it appears to be electrical. Your village president, Richard Panerali, urges all residents to have a qualified electrician inspect entry wires to your breaker box. These wires sometimes, have a tendency to loosen, .or deteriorate, causing a potential fire hazard. Also, while on the subject of fire prevention, during the winter months when we all use our indoor dryers more, check your dryer vents to make sure they are clear. This can also be a prime source of fire. REGISTER TO VOTE With the primary election coming up in March, it is important that all who wish to vote in that election be registered to vote in time. If you are not yet registered, please call Rose Liliegard at 385-4517 or Mary Lou Heald at 385-9645. Both Rose and Mary Lou are deputy registrars, and are qualified to register anyone within the county to vote. Also, for your con venience, you may stop in to village hall during regular business hours, and Mary Lou can sign you up there. Call the hall at 3854)500 for more details. System A Ids Problem When I awoke at 7 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, the ther mometer outside reed 22 degrees below zero. I decided to make a pot of hot coffee and planned to spend a quiet day inside where it was nice and warm. When I went to the kitchen sink for water and nothing came out of the Up my first thoughts woe that our pipes had froze. Within an hour and a half, the water began to flow very slow, so I quickly brewed that long awaited coffee. As I sat there enjoying my drink a call came in from the McHenry police department informing me the water in Lakeland Park would have to be boiled until Tuesday. They v wanted my assistance in getting the word spread in the neigh borhood so I took out my list of Mock mothers and began making phone calls. Y.E.S. proved to be a very big help to the community; within an hour's time the 50 block mothers Ceil Serritella and I reached were busy phoning all their neighbors passing the word on. He explained that low voltage knocked out the electrical heaters and created low pressure in the water system. As a result of the low pressure, the water had to be boiled in ac cordance with En vironmental Protection agency rules.
