m Lakemoor-Lilymoor Area Margaret Karas 385-4934 Men's Group Plans Outing ..r.; J.. v T h e K n a p s a c k s , Lakemoor's men's group, is offering an enjoyable af ternoon for youngsters six to 14. On Saturday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. at a bowling place in Island Lake, the first 100 youngsters who come will be treated to free bowling. For further information call 385- 1426 after 3 p.m. The Knapsacks is a chartered group who enjoy each other's company and share their joy with others in ' the community by events such as this. "UX ^ U FIRE LOSS FELT «c IN LAKEMOOR the trauma of the Are which destroyed the Thomas Para residence in McCullom Lake Jan. 11, was also felt in the Lakemoor community as Tom's parents, Walter and Helen Para, and other relatives live here. Family and friends were all thankful that no one was injured, as material things can be „ replaced. The McCullom Lake community, Red Cross, our local FISH, and caring people have been most helpful to this family with five children. The loss of meaningful treasures can never be replaced, and there will always be the sorrow and fear 49his point, the family is staying with relatives until a residence can be found. Donations of clothing and household items are ap preciated. Now a place to house them is the priority. Our McHenry Township Fire Department No. III, was very involved with combating the fire. The extreme cold was endured by many men for up to six hours. How comforting to know that there are people willing to suffer so others may feel safe. LAKEMOOR NEWS Public Works director * Mark Zeffrey asks residents to keep their vehicles off the streets during snow fall. The streets cannot be plowed e f f e c t i v e l y w h e p automobiles are parked on. them. Also, residents are asked to put only their own garbage out for pickup by the village. Adding refuse from non residents will eventually lead to higher costs for residents. The annexation petition of residents of Fritzsche Estates was again post poned, in order that the petitioners may present their request in a legal written form. At .that meeting, the- Lakemoor officials will vote on the petition. BLOOD PRESSURE NEWS For many years, on the third Monday evening of the month, the place to go for a free blood pressure screening was the Lakemoor Municipal building. Many people took advantage of this medical aid given under the direction of Vickie Bollen- sen, R.N. Millie Nejedly spent many Monday evenings in the heat and cold, keeping records. Many other people also gave time and experience to this free service. Now Vickie is retired, and the screening is no longer held at Lakemoor. However, every first Thursday of the month, blood pressure screening is done at the Moose lodge on Route 120, starting at 11 a.m. This service is open to anyone, not just the senior citizens who meet at the Moose for lunch. Any seniors who wish to stay for the noon meal are reminded to make, a . reservation at least one day in advance by calling 385- 8260. Dorothy Loss, site manager, is most helpful. How many years have Vickie and crew been at the L a k e m o o r M u n i c i p a l building? A vote of ap preciation goes to her and the others who assisted in giving so many of us a record of our physical health. SPECIAL DAYS Bill and Peggy Hen- drickson recognized their thirty-first year of marriage Jan. 13. May you continue to add many happy events to your retrieval system. Birthday wishes go to Ann Krawczyk on Jan. 20, and Lu Ann Underwood, who will be having her twenty-fourth birthday. Special wishes go to Lu Ami who has so much love for others, and to her father who has been in and out of the V.A. hospital, and to her devoted mother, Mary. Allen Povidas and Bill Koehler celebrate their days on the 21st. Dianne Dem- ber's special day is Jan. 24. HEALTH CONCERNS Ruth Pierce, youngest daughter of the Willard Pierces who moved to Marshfield, Wis., last year, has been hospitalized for a recurring bout with diabetes. Ruthie has been missed here, as has all her * family, sc prayers go to them in Wisconsin. Donald Leske is recuperating from cataract surgery at Good Shepherd hospital. Bruno Karas, head of this household, is now home after four weeks of medical care and is slowly gaining strength. k » / NEW ADDITION Joel Thomas Bennett made his arrival dec. 18, at the Memorial hospital in Woodstock, weighing in at 7 lbs., 3 oz., and 20Vfe inches long. Very happy at the arrival were mother and father Mary Ann and Jeremy and brothers Jeremy and Aaron. Paternal grandmother is Dorothy Bennett. Aunts and uncles live in McHenry. Jeremy and Aaron had been primed to accept a baby sister, but were just as pleased when the new infant was a boy. A hew addition to a loving family is always welcome. BIRD CARE In this extreme cold, it is of utmost necessity to continue feeding and caring for the wild life. Anyone who put seeds out for the birds in October, must continue to do so now. In the fall, the birds had the option to fly to warmer climates. Man often is generous and provides food then. When birds can no longer forage for them selves, do we still continue to feed them? Now is the time to be counted. Our two bird feeders built years ago by neighbor Gustav Wakat, each have a cardinal family. We have even seen both males and females eating from the same feeder at the same time. And I always thought cardinals had their own territory. Do continue in your care for «vild life especially when the feeding was started earlier. The animals need our support in this frigid weather.
