If they must go out alone - five : minutes should be more than suf ficient. Clip hair from between toes and foot pads; wash and dry feet after being in the snow to prevent irritation from chemical snow melters or ice between foot pads. If you have an 'outside' dog, feed two, three times a day. Keep doghouse in sheltered spot on south side with entrance facing southeast, with two inches straw, hay, into which the dog can nestle. However, with the ex treme cold temperatures, even the outside dogs can suffer frost bite. Helping Paws has had calls of a Husky, a Malmute, with frozen paws, facing possible amputation. Please take care, don't let this happen to your pet! All pet adoptions must be validated by the signing of a contract along with the adoption fee which includes the cost of the spay or neuter surgery from a vet of HP's choice, or a deduction from the cost of the surgery if done by a vet of your choice.
