season, McHenry defeated Dundee 8-2 as John Doessel went 4-for-4, Joe Bauml homored, and Jeff McNish pitched a fine complete game in picking up the victory. The Warriors' season came to an end in Regional play when they lost 12-6 to Rockford-Jefferson. At Johnsburg high school, coach Jim Meyers' squad won six of 11 games to finish with the school's first-ever .500 season at 10-10. The Skyhawks bombed Hebron 12-0 in their opening Regional contest as Dave Maurer collected five straight hits and pitcher Rich Preston recorded 10 whiffs en route to victory. Johnsburg then defeated Marian Central 7-4 before bowing out of the tournament to Marengo 6-3. Indian pitcher Stu Stock recorded a hat trick against the Skyhawks as he won for the third time in 1981 against Meyers' team. Johnsburg reached its .500 season by winning three rained-out games in­ cluding a doubleheader sweep over Beloit Catholic. * McHenry high school's girls Softball team played well during the month and finished the season with a 18-7 record which included a 9-5 mark in the Fox Valley conference, good for second place. Cary Grove won the FVC with a 12-2 record. McHenry gave an early indication of things to come by pounding out 27 hits in its 9-6 and 16-2 opening weekend sweep over Crystal Lake Central. The Warriors would win their first six games before losing 7-5 at Woodstock. Dan Boland's McHenry high school boys track team completed the first perfect track season in the school's history when it defeated both Wood­ stock and Marian Central in a double dual meet. The Warriors scored 91 points to the Blue Streaks' 81, and the Hurricanes' 10. The occasion also marked the first time that Woodstock lost a dual meet in three years. Aric Akins led the way with firsts in the 100, the 200, and the shot put. Roger Quinlan won both the long jump and the triple jump, Pete Ritthaler won the 400, John Peterson won the high hurdles, Eric Crittenden won the discus, and the Warriors won three of four relays to accomplish their feat. McHenry went on to capture the Fox Valley conference crown held at Jacobs. The Warriors scored 109 points to win while Crystal Lake South was second with 101points, and Wood­ stock was third with 101. Akins again won both the 100 and the 200, Ritthaler repeated in the 400, Ray Giagnoni Won the long jump, and McHenry won the 400, 800, and 1600 relays. In the McHenry County race, the \ Warriors placed third scoring 107 points. Woodstock and Crystal Lake South tied for first with 110 points. Ritthaler led the locals with firsts in the 100 and 400. Crittenden, a senior, was McHenry's lone qualifier to state held in Charleston. His qualifying throw of 150- 6 was also his personal best. In McHenry's girls track, freshman- Delia Saunders qualified for State in the half mile by winning the event at the Libertyville District in 2:25. McHenry high school's water polo team finished its season with three victories in its last five matches to end up fr-4 for the year. In their last three games, Mike Shanahan's Warriors scored 63 goals including a 39-9 rout over Stevenson in their finale. At the post season awards banquet, goalie Scott Budaj was selected Most Valuable Player while Ken Pociask was voted Most Improved. Budaj had 206 saves and stopped 64 percent of his opponents' shots on goal, while Pociask led the team with 48 assists and tied for most goals scored with 61. The Warriors senior ended her regular season with a 23-4 record. Johnsburg high school's Inge Dschida broke a SHARK conference record in the discus with a toss of 28.10 meters at the conference meet held at Johnsburg. Dschida was also a double winner for the Skyhawks as she captured first place in the shot put with a toss of 9.16 meters. Johnsburg finished fourth in the conference with 40 points. Hononegah won the SHARK title scoring 65 points. Cheri Kofler earned a trip to state for the third straight year by winning the long jump and finishing second in the 100 meter dash at districts. In the boys SHARK conference meet, Hononegah was again champion by scoring 89 points, while Johnsburg was fifth with 21 points. Two Skyhawk athletes finished first--John Payne with a conference record 3.43 meters in the pole vault, and Jay Jackson in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:20.92. At Marian Central, the coaching staff was reduced by two as baseball coach Karl Mathews and football coach Lew Miskowicz were both fired. * Turning away from the high schools, men's 12-inch Softball at Petersen park got underway with defending champion Fox Hole Tap tabbed as the team to beat. Returning five of the league's top seven hitters, Fox Hole opened its season with a 15-2 slaughter over new league entry Whale's Tail Don Bentz's three-run home run in the sixth inning ended the game. The Fox Hole had its 22-garne win­ ning streak snapped the next game, however, as Wayne's pounded out eight home runs en route to a 21-8 win Tom Prudden and Wayne Roewer each smacked two homers for the winners .and Don Prazak, Tom Burke, Kevin Horner, and Rick Weigman blasted one each out of the park. Men's 16-inch Softball got underway and Mark Bentz had a terrific opening day.
