Tbe association will be having its election of the board in the near future and Sharon Gacek is looking for nominations and-or people to serve on the committee. If you can help Sharon she can be reached in the evening at 385-3777. NO PARKING It was brought to my at tention that many have been parking on the street since we've had all our bad weather. Some residents have thought it easier to park there when they found their driveways drifted from the blowing snow. This makes it very hard for the plows to do their job and when the streets are already treacherous the traffic doesn't need any additional obstacles. There is an ordinance that states there is no overnight parking allowed, so please see to it that your vehicles are in your driveway. FALL IN LAKE Thanks to an observant resident, a disaster was averted last week when a young boy fell through the ice on McCullom Lake. This boy was by himself, so no one would have been able to seek help for him. If a parent knows their children will be out they should instruct them to go with a companion just in case an emergency should arise. These kids should also be told to go to the nearest house for help, so they don't lose valuable time when someone's life could be in danger. FISHING DERBY The McCullom Lake Conservation club's annual fishing derby on the weekend of Jan. 23-24 was a huge success, we never realized there were so many avid fishermen until we saw all the people out on the lake early Saturday morning. Even though the winds were blowing and the temperature was below freezing, true fishermen were there having a great time. PASSED ON The community lost a great friend Jan. 20, when Erna Saarl passed away. She was very active with the Woman's club and Craft dub and will be greatly missed by those who have known and worked with her. We send our deepest sympathy to her son. with whom she had lived in Lakeland Park. By the year 2000 there will be 28 million persons over 63 as compared with about 20 million in 1970. Problems created by the extreme cold weather of January has prompted in novative residents of the community to devise new ways of doing things. And their action has prompted the Plaindealer to open a column in wheh timely tips on a variety of subjects will be printed from time to time. Walter Poerschmann, who resides in the Jobsnburg- Wilmot road area, was having problems with frost forming on tbe back win dows of his car. He tried a solution of three parts vinegar to one part water, and with a cloth, rubbed the inside windows. Two days later no frost had formed. For those who don't have humidifiers but would like a higher humidity level, he suggested dipping a large Turkish towel in water and hanging it on the towel bar or other convenient place. He checks carefully and said that on one day the towel, which contained over a pint of water, was dry in two hours. Another suggestion, this one for next fall, is to use ooe-inch masking tape on all windows where they are joined mid-way to keep wind out. Mr. Poerschmann reported that the practice works very well, but reminded to be sure not to place the tape on windows that are to be opened. Be sure the informa tion you get is not misin formation.
