LaFox, S. Elgin, Thur­ sday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. Barbara Stansbury and her dog. Spirit, will conduct the demonstration, which is free and open to the public. The Hearing Dog program was founded by the Wisconsin Humane society in Milwaukee. It trains dogs to help the deaf and hearing- impaired by alerting them to such sounds as a doorbell, alarm clock, smoke alarm, crying baby, or intruder. Dogs are selected from humane societies for their good health, intelligence, suitable temperament, and age (6-14 months). This meet was held at Homewood-Flossmoor high school in Homewood on Sunday, Jan. 24. Competing in the novice division for the Tumbleweeds, Allison, along with the entire Tumbleweeds troupe overall placed very high in this particular meet. Their next competition will be coming up shortlv in Cicero, and in April they will 344 2665 be competing in McHenry. Allison will be competing in both of these upcoming events. Congratulations to Allison for all her hard work. I know she puts in a lot of long hours each week in practice. Best of luck to her in future events! » POLICE DEPARTMENT In response to recent police cutbacks, Chief of Police William Mullen would like to assure all residents that "you will continue to receive quality police protection 24 hours a day. This will be accomplished with part-time help, professional in every respect, supplemented with service from the McHenry County Sheriff's Police. Emphasis will continue to be on police services and protection. Traffic en­ forcement will, of course, continue, and I would like to commend residents of McHenry Shores for their continuing cooperation in observing our overnight parking and snow removal ordinances." PUBLIC HEARING Work on Phase One of the McHenry Shores Federal Sewer Grant project is winding to a close, as the representatives from Baxter and Woodman Engineering Firm and the members of the Public Advisory com­ mittee met Jan. 20 for their last meeting before the Public Hearing, now set for March 6. This hearing will conclude Phase One of McHenry Shores' steps to obtain federal funding for sewers and a treatment plant for our area. This Upcoming Public Hearing will be held on a Saturday, so as many residents of our village, and those affected, can par­ ticipate. More information con­ cerning this meeting will appear in this column as the date draws nearer.
