A crash, followed by a jar, brought visions of a bomb or an earthquake, or perhaps both, to John Anderson, proprietor of the Broadway Barbecue, when his place was shaken by a most unusual accident. A woman, driving a big Hudson-8, coming from the south on Route 61, was unable to make the curve and instead of following the pavement her car shot across to the gravel shoulder at the left, where Mr. Anderson had placed some large whitewashed rocks to mark his drive. In some way the Hudson picked up one of th ese 90-pound boulders and hurled it through the front window of the Broadway Barbecue. Luckily no one was in the path and so no one was injured. The Plaindealer invites as its guests Joseph J. Miller of McHenry and one guest to witness the presentation of "West of Broadway", starring John Gilbert, at the Empire theatre, McHenry. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the, files of February 26, 1942). At the annual Scouter- Cubber recognition dinner held at Oregon, 111., our local Scoutmaster, M. L. Schoenholtz, who is also a teacher in the McHenry grade school, received one of the highest honors ever bestowed by the Boy Scout organization. Coming as a surprise, the award of "Siver Beaver" is even more coveted by Mr. Schoenholtz. Selection was made by a special committee. The only other high award is the "Silver Buffalo", which is given only to men doing work in connection with international Scout work. The award made to Mr. Schoenholtz has only been Missionaries To Speak At Wonder Lake Bible Church THE WAYNE KINGS PET COLUMN GIVE AWAY. Longhaired Siamese, excellent with children and pets. Some people will think of someone possibly going into some of the more b a c k w a r d E u r o p e a n countries, and a very few people will think of someone right here in the United States - most likely laboring in a store front in a badly blighted urban setting. Bui practically, no one will think of a person working with children in the village of Nazareth, Israel. However, missionaries will go whereever they are sent - and that includes even living in a country where the in flation rate is 131 percent in., one year. That's correct. The annual inflation rate in the nation of Israel is 131 per cent. This is just one of the facts that the people of the Wonder Lake Bible church will hear about Sunday, Feb. 14 when Wayne King will be speaking to them. Wayne, his wife, Carol, and their four sons have spent the past 17 years serving in Israel under Child Evangelism Fellowship and are currently back in the U.S. for a year's leave. The couple will be in Wonder Lake this weekend. On$ Saturday they will join the Sunday school workers for a special dinner in Walworth. Then they will be at the Wonder Lake Bible church throughout the day Sunday, speaking, demonstrating curioS and presenting a slide program depicting life in Isreal and the work they are doing there. Wayne King, known better in this area perhaps as "Uncle Wayne", is a former resident of Zion, 111., and served with Child Evangelism Fellowship in this area from 1960 to 1962. Carol King comes from d o w n s t a t e C h a m p a i g n - Urbana area, and served as the Bible teacher several summers at the C.E.F.- sponsored, Camp Good News near Peoria, where the Kings met.
