The phone rings and Judy Muelkr is the excited caller She just saw the first robin of the spring If there have been others. nobody told us. So-- this one is official in this corner Judy also wished us a happy St. Patrick's day. Now. she's the kind of a girl I like. Getting a neighbor boy to help, they set sail and recovered tbe pole. Just as they made the recovery, a bass (16" long, 3 pounder) jumped into the boat. Clarence pounced on it and left for home before too many of the same kind could jump in and sink the boat. The Chicago Tribune came out with a large picture of Mayor Byrne. Never saw her smile before. She's kinda cute. Announcement that Lawrence Welk, old one-a- two-a taped his last show- came as a blow to some of us. Old tunes were a real treat for the geritol crowd. Diane Fuhler, one of those All-Star waitresses at Longhom, was listening to our discussion on left over meals and told a good one about her husband He looks in the refrigerator, taking out one item after another with the remark "this must go". When all those items are mixed together, it is called a "MUST GO DISH". x The Irish have been noted for and sometimes con- time at a r having a wake. That's just what I had when Eva Anderson died at the age of 80 last week. As Eva's niece, Mrs. William Lewis remarked, "Eva liked fun and wouldn't mind". Not all, but most of die John Anderson family came to pay their respects. Some live far, far away. We met Marian An derson's daughter and she remembered her mother telling about naming some column for the Plaindealer. Yep. Nearly a half century ago Editor "Mo6e" ran a contest to name this column. It was Marian who came up with "SO I HEAR" and she won a baseball glove and maybe other equipment for her collection Sports activity was a way of life in the Anderson family so Marian put her prize to good use. We read about industrial firms losing billions of dollars and still planning for the future. How can that be? The Bluegill Club went into action over the weekend and brought in more than enough for another big fish feast at White Sox Headquarters. It was the second annual event for tbe Walshes. George Rodenkirk phoned, then Larry Nimsgern checked to see if we had our invitation. (Not to be nervy, bat I told them last year we'd be back if they wanted to invite us.) Fax Hole Red has a special formula for preparing those Muegills that make them really special. Like when the shrimp boats are comin', the crowd gathers round for those bhie gill feasts. Sonomongun we had some fun! Destination was the Crystal Lake station to take a survey of McHenry residents who take the train at Crystal Lake and why. Jill, with schoolmates Katby Bradley, Gene Hay and Terry Abbink, and Chamber of Commerce driver Fran Olsen, took a poll. It was found that more McHenry area residents use the Crystal Lake station than Crystal Lake people. Why isn't the McHenry station being used? Only two Chicago trips a day are made, as opposed to hourly trains at Crystal Lake. Jill states that her group determined the McHenry station needs more train service, not the cutbacks that seem imminent as budget cuts. Revenue the RTA receives from McHenry county far exceeds the costs of services ren dered. The loss of the ticket agent alone would result in having no local information service, no ticket purchase, and the possibility of van dalism and deterioration of the station itself. McHenry area businesses and residents need more train service. The next hearing will be on Mar 22 in Chicago, which will deter mine the fate of our ticket agent and eventually train service to McHenry. Jill is to be commended for her efforts to make people aware of the local tran sportation situation, thereby helping to improve train service in our area. HOME BURGLARIZED TWO TIMES Harry and Anna Odom of Lily Lake road left after the first of the year to enjoy the warmer weather in Florida. They returned three weeks early because their home had been violated. On Saturday, Feb. 20, Bill Odom, Harry's brother, checked the house and found a back window broken. The interior of the house looked like a disaster area. Drawers had been emptied with contents strewn about, all the pictures and wall hangings had been torn down, even to the ripping up of Anna's father's picture. Furniture was turned over as if animals had been turned loose in the house. Stolen were smaller items of value such as coins and pewter The sheriff was called and the back window was covered. What happened next? Saturday night, Feb. 20, a second invasion of the Odom home was made. This time larger things were taken; the television, tools and items for which there could be a quick sale. - Harry and Anna are trying to assess the damage and return their lovely home to a semblance of its former beauty. But the pain and violation of the sanctity of their home will always be with them. The thieves? May they rot with their loot.
