McHENRY, ILLINOIS RICHMOND, ILLINOIS WOODSTOCK, ILLINOIS ra.3tt-31M Insurance and Investment Services concerned the National Flood Insurance program, and gave residents information about the availability of flood in surance. Giving presen tations were Mary Bandiera of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Robert Carter of the Alfred Benesch Co., and James Considine of the Northern Illinois Planning Com mission. Ms. Bandiera explained the insurance program sponsored by the Federal government, which supplies flood insurance that private insurance companies would not. Certain regulations must be complied with, such as elevations of new structures and rules for rebuilding of homes damaged by flood waters. The insurance is subsidized by the Federal Government, lowering the cost to the home owner. Indirectly. President Hyatt stated that Lakemoor residents should have the opportunity of buying this subsidized insurance. The village will adopt this program and make it available to in terested parties. A revised map of the flood zone areas in Lakemoor will be sent to Ms. Bandiera. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Bob and Helen (Chris) Donovan were surprised at a gathering of friends at Wally's in Lakemoor on Feb. 28, in recognition of their forty-eighth wedding an niversary. The wedding date was March 1, 1934, but Sunday was a good day to celebrate. Son Burnell took his mother and dad out for brunch, and stopped at Wally's for a toast. And there friends were gathered to wish the anniversary couple continued happiness and good health. Among the well wishers were Joan and Walter O'Brien, Dick Hyatt and his mother, and grand son, Timmy, and his friend. A mock wedding was per formed to the delight of all present. Helen and Bob received lovely gifts and the happy memory of a joyful forty-eighth anniversary. 'THE ALL DAY WEDNESDAY Announcing Our New Extended Wednesday Hours For Your Convenience! Now Open Every. MYSTERY IN LAKEMOOR A talk show on radio station WIND roused the curiosity of Bob Szamlewski's son. Ac cording to the caller, a UFO was sighted and witnessed by seven people ap proximately one year ago, hovering over the LML restaurant in Lakemoor. The flying object disappeared, and then three smaller objects came into view. Bob was the chef at the restaurant at that time, and does not recall the incident. He would like to contact anyone who witnessed the UFO's over Lakemoor about 8 a.m. in February or March, 1981. All who saw, please come forward. ST. PATRICK'S CELEBRATION Julia Kraus, volunteer receptionist at the Meet and Eat Center at the Moose Lodge on Route 120, reminds our mature citizens of the celebration to be held on Wednesday, March 17, in honor of St. Patrick's Day. She had been home for one week after her last of several hospital stays, having battled illness for some time. Mrs. Berends was grand mother of James Chambers of Fritzsche Estates and Carol Sue Chambers of Lakemoor. She leaves other grandchildren and great grandchildren including JoAnn, Patty, April and Jimmy Chambers. Sympathy is extended to the family, who have all helped her through this long period of ill health. GET-WELLS Robert Gurske is again in the McHenry hospital, battling an infection after his tonsillectomy. Rusty Hueckstaedt, youngest son of Alma and Bud, is now hobbling around with a full leg cast, the result of torn ligaments in his knee suf fered while skiing in Iowa. Jason Schmidt will have five candles on his cake on the sixteenth. 0 DEATH DRAMA Saturday, Feb. 27, I received a call from neigh bor, Otto Witzke saying that his tenant, Mrs. Mary Un derwood, was lying on the floor unconscious. After arriving at the apartment, the McHenry Rescue Squad and the Sheriff's office were called, because it seemed that Mary was already beyond help. Her daughter, LuAnn, had alerted Otto to Mary's fall, but it was too late. So ended the life of Mary Lu Underwood, nee Hart- man, wife of ailing Ralph Underwood, mother of Kathy, Gary and LuAnn, and grandmother of Brandy Nicole Johnson. Ralph is in the V.A. hospital, where he has spent many months lately, so Mary's lot has not been an easy one. LuAnn is staying with her sister, Kathy, and her family at this time, and she too needs additional care. Funeral services were held in Woodstock on March 2. The Underwoods had lived in Lilymoor about 16 years ago and had returned to Lily Lake Park after many years residence in Woodstock. Death seen so close makes it very apparent how finite we all are. Deepest sym pathy is extended to all of Mary's family. The convention theme, "Joining Together is a Beginning, Staying Together is Progress and Working Together is Suc cess," served as the impetus which brought together more than 1,500 vocational educators from the State of Illinois. According to IVA President Roger Herberts of Illinois State university, the vocational educators par ticipated in inservice ac tivities which developed renewed enthusiasm, ex panded their technical ex pertise, and aided in in creasing their commitment to Vocational Education. Several McHenry high school educators attended this conference including Ron Zimmermann, East campus Graphics in structor; Emma Chaberski, West campus Health Oc cupations coordinator; and Ron Dale, District 156 Vocational director.
