PAGE K - PLA1NDEALER - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31.1382 Wonder Lake Anne Sowers 653 9549 1 Plan Coming 4th Of July In order to have an event turn out to be successful and one that is long remem bered, planning has to begin long in advance. Fourth of July, 1982 festivities will definitely be memorable because planning has a l r e a d y b e g u n . Organizations are being asked to take part in a parade Saturday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to noon. An organizational meeting was held Sunday, March 21, at the Wonder Lake Inn4© see what could be done about having fireworks, since the American Legion will no longer be sponsoring them. Nine organizations, in cluding the Lakers Snowmobile club, American Legion, Woman's club of Wonder Lake, Wonder Lake Ski club. Lion's club of Wonder Lake, Yacht club, Jaycees, Kiwanis club of Wonder Lake, and the Wonder Lake Fire depart ment were invited to be represented. It was decided that the responsibility of door-to-door collecting could be divided among the organizations. Jim Kinzie of the American Legion stated that the cost of the fireworks display from last year was $7,000. Another meeting is vscheduled for Sunday, April 4. 1:30 p.m., also at the Wonder Lake Inn, at which AEROBIC DANCING LITE an alternative for brisk waHnrs Aerobic Dancing LITE is a lively exercise program that is choreog raphed to be danced at a walking level Classes are taught by Instructors certiSed by Jacfci Sorensen originator of Aerobtc Dancing A 25°c discount will be given to those students 65 years or older LOSE INCHES AND GET FIT! LOSS OF MANY FRIENDS By now, we have been plagued with details of the crash of a KC-135 Friday, March 19, over the Green wood area. It was a tremendous disaster, resulting in the end of 27 lives and touched all of us in different ways. For me, the "what ifs" entered my mind - what & the crash had happened one hour earlier, landing on Greenwood school where my family was one of many attending the annual Science Fair! What if that plane came plummeting down in the middle of the Village of Wonder Lake or Highland Shores subdivision ? An even greater disaster. We felt sadness for the families of those on the plane, but for one Wonder Lake resident, this sadness will linger for some time to come. Randy McCafferty, a member of the Wonder Lake Fire department and Rescue Squad was out in the field with other members of the department when he became aware of the fact that this plane was one from his sister squadron in the Air National Guard. These were his friends. Randy was probably hit much harder than the rest of us, but we all share his sadness. After talking to him, I know he has a warm feeling for this local support. SPECIAL PEOPLE Often we take for granted people who perform a service for us, not that we do it on purpose, but it's just that they do their job so well, we just expect it. Such is the case with our men of the Wonder Lake Volunteer Fire department. These are the men who hurry away from special dinners because someone has carelessly let a grass fire get out of hand. These are the men who jump out of their comfortable bed at 3 a.m. because someone else has been carelessly smoking in their bed. These are the men who fight the snow and slippery roads because a woman needs to be transported to the hospital to give birth. ,j+. , These are also the Same men who were the first to HIIIE To Am UtTT Is Pleased To Announce The Arrival Of Diane Smith (formerly Of Mister's C»lff»ir*») SPRINGTIME SPECIAL ZOTOS Gentle Persuasion Acid (Dave >25 REGULARLY *30 SILHOUETTE'S 4719 W. They were the first ones on the scene identifying it as a military plane and setting up the plan of action. Some of the men worked for over 30 hours, searching for bodies through muddy fields, fag and cold weather. They were cold and tired but they continued. Since this was a military plane, we have heard much of the military action and seen evidence of them even now, still on the scene, but credit should go where credit is due. The Wonder Lake Fire and Rescue squad did a job above and beyond the call of duty. The women of the Firemen's auxiliary shouldn't be left out either. They put in the same long hours in the kitchen making coffee and sandwiches; some of the ladies actually going out to the crash site. TTiey not only give moral support to the men, but give them the needed nourishment to keep them going. These ladies are just as dedicated a group as the men they work so hard for. Our community is certainly grateful to the Wonder Lake " Fire department and the Woman's auxiliary, not iust for their major role in this recent disaster, but for what they do for us every day of the year. • • • • Peace of mind and in ward happiness are life's greatest reward. * * * * The great trouble with luck is that it often dis appears when you need it most. BOY SCOUT NEWS PACK 142 On March 20, seven thrilled happy Cub Scouts from Pack 142, assisted by Webelos leader Chuck Motejzik, and sponsored by the Valley View P.T.O., will enter the final round of Pinewood Derby race held in Rockford. They are Michael Bunting, Brian Conaghan, Michael Chris tensen, Jeff Motejzik, Chris Odom, Brett Jackson, and Stewart Mc- Vicar. A mistake in last month's news, we showed that Brian Conaghan was fastest in the pack; however, it should have read that Michael Bunting held this honor. Brian Conaghan was our 10-year-old first place winner. Our Blue and Gold dinner was a total success. Ap proximately 235 guests were in attendance. We had a potluck dinner provided by each den and each one also put on the entertainment. We all had a good time because of the efforts of Pack 142, our den leaders and committee staff. On April 17, Pack 142 will hold a dual money making effort to raise money. There will be a newspaper drive and a returnable bottle drive. Tentatively the time is set for Saturday, 9jto 12, April 17. Again, Ordinance No. 152, which is an ordinance to prevent damage to the pavement of village streets by prohibiting parking ex cept by permit, was discussed. You can contact Ron K rum see for a permit application or pick one up at the clerk's office. Also, Ordinance No. 153 was discussed. This one deals with weight limits. It shall be unlawful to operate or park any vehicle weighing in excess of four tons on any street in the village at any time except for the following vehicles: emergency, utility, service, school buses, garbage trucks, local deliveries and trucks with permits issued by village board. Unexpectedly to the board, police trustee, Gene Huff, turned in his resignation. With much regret, the board accepted it. Gene has served the board and this village well for many years.
