A Petition for Annexation and Re-zoning has heretofore been filed with Name Lamb-Wool Queen KAREN KANTLEHNER Karen Kantlehner, 16, a sophomore at Richmond- Burton high school active in a variety of school and farm- related projects, has been named McHenry county's first Lamb and Wool queen. The pretty brown-haired, brown-eyed daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Kantlehner, Richmond, was crowned at a ceremony conducted last week by the McHenry County Lamb and Wool Producers, sponsors of the new queen in planned promotional programs. Karen has 30 registered Suffolk sheep. At last year's McHenry county fair she had championship ribbons in sheep, rabbits and other projects related to her 4-H club projects. She showed the grand champion ram among all breeds and the reserve grand champion Suffolk ewe in 4-H. She raises Champagne d'Argents rabbits, recently winning the best of breed for both meat and show animals at the national rabbit show. She has horse, poultry, sheep, rabbit, ceramics, c o m m u n i c a t i o n s a n d "people to people" projects in 4-H this year. An eight-year member of 4-H, Karen is president of the C o m m u n i t y C l o v e r s a n d Gophers club. Wearing a blue skirt and vest she had made from wool, Karen appeared before the board of the Producers last week to tell about her experiences in promotion at a recent farmfest. Cooking is one of her hobbies and preparing a leg of lamb is her favorite challenge in the kitchen. Though two years from graduation from high school, Karen has ambitious long- range plans. She recalls that since she was in the fifth grade she has wanted to become a veterinarian. She anticipates pursuing that career at the University of Illinois after high school. Bishop Confirms 63 At St. Mary Church On Sunday, March 28, the Sacrament of Confirmation was received by 63 candidates at St. Mary's church. The 2 p.m. Mass was celebrated by the Most Reverend Arthur J. O'Neil. bishop of the Rockfora diocese, assisted by the Rev. James G. Gaynor, pastor of St. Mary's. Catholics believe that through the Sacrament of Confirmation they receive the Holy Spirit to strengthen their Christian faith and to become soldiers of Jesus Christ. The Sacrament is conferred by annointing with Holy Chrism (oil) on the forehead. iAccording to a church spokesman, they must never be ashamed ot, or deny their Catholic faith and would rather die than renounce it.
