Lakemoor-Lilymoor Area Margaret Karas 385-4934 Contest Shows ESISZi. £• Library Wants "What would you like in your new library?" This is the question being asked of youngsters and adults in a contest which focuses at tention on National library week. Prudence Huffman and Donna Brown of "Friends of the library" have been busy planning the contest. Signs have been made and put into local businesses, schools and churches. Put your ideas on paper in 100 words or less, telling of your expectations for a new library facility in our community. Entries are to be left at the McHenry Nunda library on lily Lake road, one mile south of Route 120. Names, addresses and phone numbers are to be put on back of the letters, and submitted by April 15. Books are the prizes. Have the challenge of winning a prize, plus knowing that your ideas will help the McHenry Nunda Library Board of Trustees determine what the com munity really wants in its new library building. HELP! Lilymoor, as a sub division, has no taxing body, which makes every property owner or resident liable to pay for local improvements. A group of people band together, knowing that singly very little can be done to keep up the roads, remove rubbish, keep the area lit at night, or be vigilant against intruders who destroy or harm. This group is usually known as a property owners association. In this case, it is called simply the "Lilymoor Association", and it tries to maintain the community through minimal yearly dues. What happens? The same four individuals, plus of ficers of the association, are the only people concerned enough for the welfare of their community to come to the once-a-month meetings. Is there really so little caring about your neighbor, and so little pride in the com munity, that the roads are allowed to become almost unusable, the roadsides unkempt and residents fearful for their safety? Where will you be Monday evening on April 5? Four people plus a few voted-in officers cannot take the responsibility for all of Lilymoor. Your presence is respectfully requested at 100B N. Dale, Lilymoor, at 7:30 this Monday evening. Be there and help make Lilymoor a better place to live. SCOUTING'S HIGHEST HONOR ^ve-yew-old Brian ce of Lily Lake road is working for his Eagle badge. Plans for his public service project have been approved, id he and fellow Boy Scouts Nunda Public Library District The outside has been sanded, the old sign taken off, and weather permitting, the building will be repainted this week. Brian has designed at tractive graphics for the front and both sides of the structure, which will make everyone aware that it is a library. Some landscaping is also in the plans. The importance of having youngsters in organizations such as scouting is really apparent when activities such as this are done. Watching Brian and his friends busy working, while other youngsters have nothing constructive to do, gives quite a testimony to scouting. This public service project will take at least 40 hours of work. The paint was sup plied by Fritzsche Industrial Park, with other time and materials mostly supplied by Mom Deeke. Can't wait to see the finished product, and to see Brian receive scouting's highest honor. ANOTHER BB GUN Two youngsters from the south side of Lily Lake also did some target practice this past week. Windows in a vacant house in Fritzsche Estates were shattered as a result. Parents, please keep BB guns in your own yards under your supervision. Putting the temptation of destruction into your youngster's hands is demanding more self control than they are capable of having. A BB gun is not a toy. It is a weapon when used without proper control. SPECIAL DAYS Monique Betancourt celebrates her birthday on the last day of March. George Alexander Wirfs will be two years old April 1. Aprils is an important day in Bud and Alma Hueck- staedt's life, as some years ago their second daughter Cherie was born. Now Cberie is known as "Mamma" Mumma, with four children of her own. James Chambers of Fritzsche Estates celebrates his day April 6. May all birthday people have a joyous day. Myra and Stan Zabroski are wished happiness on their anniversary, April 5. SPRING IS SPRUNG The ice is starting to turn into water and the ducks, muskrats, and even a pair of Canadian geese are leaving their wakes. The robins, cardinals and sparrows are warbling their hearts out, with an occasional bass from the starlings. And the smell of spring again, in the first sheets brought inside after I on the line in the wind sunshine. Next to homemade bread, this has to be a most savored aroma. Crocuses, among the first blossoms of spring, are making colorful displays. The tulips and daffodils don't mind occasional snowflakes, because soon they too will delight us all with their startling beautiful colors. Winter is a memory, and the anticipation and beginning of new growth is here. COMMUNITY CALENDAR April first, April fool. A Slide program en titled "Monster Dig," will be presented by Carolyn Buittner, the vice-president. Anyone interested is in vited to the meeting at no charge. Refreshments will be served. Scout Troop 13 J Will Aid Recycling Co-sponsoring the recycling drive Saturday, April 3, in McHenry, will be the Boy Scout Troop 131 and the McHenry County Defenders. The drive will be held, as usual, in the Market Place Parking lot on West Route 120. Used motor oil should rank high on the list of items people save for these recycling drives, according to the Defender spokesman, since every gallon recycled yields 5 pints of usable motor oil, thus reducing our dependence on foreign oil and conserving our own precious supply. Used motor oil should be brought to the drive in plastic or metal containers (not glass) with secure lids. Other items which are recycled are newspapers stacked and tied securely so that they can be easily handled by the workers at the drive; plastic bags should be removed and no slick papa* (magazines or junk mail) or corrugated cardboard included in the bundles. Free twine is available at the drives for future use. Glass containers should be rinsed with all metal or plastic removed, including the narrow metal bands that are on some wine bottles. Clear, green and brown glass will be accepted; light bulbs and crockery, which are not recyclable, will not be accepted. Steel ("tin") cans should be rinsed, have labels removed, and flattened to conserve space. Bi-metal cans (with aluminum tops and steel sides) cannot be accepted. PAGE 5 • PLAINDE ALER . There is an immediate pay-back for all-aluminum cans. The cans should be clean (especially if picked up along the roadside) and preferably smashed. Other aluminum articles, such as TV dinner trays, can be recycled but there is no pay back for these items.' For further information about recycling or how an organization can participate in a future drive, contact the McHenry county spokesman at 385-8512. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31,1982 50 LB. SEEDS The biggest seeds on Ear th -- bigger than beach balls and weighing as much as 50 pounds -- are found only on palm trees on the Seychelle islands off the east coast of Africa. Called "coco de mer" (qpconut of the sea), the giant seeds were named centuries ago by people who thought they .had washed ashore from underwater trees, National Geographic World maga zine says. f*F RMANFNT HAIR DFMOVDL A SERVICE HUT HELPS YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSIJ CALL FOR FREE CONSULTATION 815*344-3640 (If No Answer) 312-658-3696 4302 W.
