i PAGE 1« - PLAINDEALER • WEDNESDAY. APRIL 28.1982 Lakemoor-Lilymoor Area Margaret Karas 385-4934 President Of Board Leaves Louise Hipwell of Lakemoor, president of the McHenry Nunda Library Board of Trustees, tendered her resignation at the monthly meeting last Thursday evening. Louise has been president for the past four years, and led the board through many problems, with resulting growth. Board members who had been unaware of Louise's departure from our area were ready to hold an Irish wake. Louise will be sorely missed in this coming time of building and enlarging. She has put down a firm foundation for the new president to build on. The library board and the wholV library community are grateful to this inspiring, gracious lady for the years of leadership she has provided. Wishes for a full, happy life go with her to her new home in Woodstock. SIDS AGAIN Sudden Infant Death Join the Fun! Baby William is also mourned by his great- grandmother Mrs. Emma Gray and three sisters Ann, Shannon and Jennifer, who all lived together in Liiymoor. The shock waves of pain were felt throughout the community. * N e i g h b o r A l m a Huecksjaedt collected funds for a memorial for the baby and deepest sympathy is given to all the members of the May family. WELCOME BACK The Lily Lake Ladies League met last Wednesday for its first gathering in several months and Julia Kraus was hostess for the evening festivity at the municipal building. Julia remembers when that building was the firehouse, for which her husband had helped break ground. Julia won first prize playing Bunco; Helen Para was the prolific winner with the second and special prizes; Millie Nejedly won booby. Millie Narcarti was unable to come because of illness and Connie O'Rourke was home taking care of her ailing husband. With the warmer weather, the ladies welcome others in the area to join in their two evenings a month out, held the first , and third Wed nesdays. Helen Para, president, will be happy to give information and even see about transportation for those needing it. Dennis Conway 3319 W. W o r t h w h i l e suggestions included adding more books, records, typewriters, games, tables and heat. Also desired were air conditioning, carpeting, clothes rack, craft programs, and a two-story log building. All very good suggestions for the library- to-be. Friends of the Library are looking for more friends to help with library projects. Call 385-3528 for information on joining in the fun at the library. CONGRATULATIONS Carol Ballard and Richard A. Polinski, Sr., were married at a civil ceremony at the McHenry County Courthouse April 15, 1982. Witnesses were Don and Louise Hipwell of Lakemoor. This marked the second wedding in the Ballard family in two weeks, as Carol's daughter Christine was married to Kenneth Schueler on April 2. In at tendance at that wedding, also in Woodstock, were Richard Polinski, Sr., as best man and Patty Withrow as bridesmaid. May the joy of a shared commitment be with the new Mr. and Mrs. Richard Polinski, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schueler. APPEAR ON TV The lights were on, the camera focused, and gracious hostess Marie Matthias was introducing the viewing audience to the McHenry Nunda Library on Lily Lake road. In recognition of National Library week, Board President Louise Hipwell had begun the TV coverage planning a month ago. Libraries featured on the program included Round Lake, McHenry Public, Woodstock and McHenry Nunda Library District. Questions pertaining to library service and Library week were directed to librarian Margaret Karas, and I found it very exciting to be able to share my thoughts with strangers out there in the audience. Louise was asked about her plans, both for the library and moving. Also present at the in terview, were the newly \yed Mr. and Mrs. Richard Polinski, Sr., of Lakemc Their first official act aft the wedding ceremony was signing up for library cards. What other library can top that? BIRTHDAYS May 28 is the important day of the year for Jo Bar- telt, teenager Brenda Hall and four-year-old Heidi DuHack. Laura Meyer, who has worked with the Liiymoor association so diligently these past years, celebrates on the last day of April. May day finds Otto Witzke spending his eighty-first birthday at his home in Lily Lake Park. Helen Para of Lakemoor celebrates her day on the second of May. Albert Kunz will be receiving happy birthday wishes from his wife Anita and children Michael and Heidi, on May 3. SENIOR ACTIVITIES Free blood pressure screening is provided for all ages at the Senior Citizen meeting place on the first Thursday of every month. The center located at the Moose lodge on Route 120 opens for testing at 10:30 a.m. The seniors are gathering items for their annual rummagje sale to be held in May. Proceeds are all used at the center, benefiting the free time of our mature people NEEDLESS WASTE A large bird believed to be a blue crane was found washed up on the north shore of Lily Lake last week. It had been shot. What perverted pleasure did some sadistic person have in destroying one of these beautiful long legged birds which nest near our lake? Wild life taken for food serves a purpose, but wanton killing is a waste and a sad commentary on the cruelty of man. COMMUNITY CALENDAR May 3 - Liiymoor association meeting, 7:30 p.m. ; 1008 W. If you noticed our column not appearing regularly as of late, it is not because I have not been here, typewriter ready, but because of the absolute lack of news that has been coming, or I should say not coming my way. T h e s e n e i g h b o r h o o d columns must depend on the residents for news and in formation from our area. I would hate to see this column, which I feel has been a great source of in formation in the past, dwindle away due to lack of interest or response from our residents, but I cannot write, if there is nothing to write about. So, please give me something to do! Call me with any news of birthdays, anniversaries, parties, vacations, births or wed dings. I would love^ to write about anything that would be of interest to our residents. My phone number as always, is at the top of this column, and I can be reached most any time during the day, and always during the evening. CITY COUNCIL After having attended the first few McHenry City Council meetings after the annexation, I would en courage any interested and concerned residents of our area to also attend, as I have found them most interesting and educational. The public is invited to attend, and these meetings are held on the first, third and fifth Monday (if there is one) of each month at 8 p.m. at the city hall. Join us! Reconstruction Closes Road Beginning last Friday, Route 132 (Grand avenue), between Route 12 (Rand road) and Rollins road, in Fox Lake will be closed to traffic for reconstruction of the Milwaukee road grade crossing, the Illinois Department of Tran sportation has announced. The road will be closed to traffic until 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 4. A marked detour will be provided. Motorists are urged to drive with care in the detour area and use alternate routes, if possible, during the construction period.
