PAGE 4 - PI. LER - WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28.1*2 "EARL WALSH" So I Hear Tahition Gardens Apt. 50B Holiday, Fla. 33590 Dear Loyal Sox Fan. I write few letters, but this one I could not pass up. Alex keeps me in touch with S.I.H. while he is in Florida. This little gem is from the St Petersburg Times It is true that I know few people in McHenry, but I love to read your homespun philosophy I am well and expect to be reading your column when I am 100 Sincerely, Coach Dear Coach. Must advise some of our readers that your identity is Coach Gordon Stringer, formerly of MCHS ---And formerly means back in the 20s. It is a thrill to get your letter and to learn of your plans to read S.I.H. at age 100 1 know you are 80 some, going on 100. You are changing my plans In August, it will be 47 years since I followed "Bacon's Strip" If they will keep me around. I'd like to complete 50 years Now, you come along and change the figures Let's just play it by ear Enjoyed the sports clip ping but wonder if that Sports Editor, Herbert Mizell, never heard of a team called the White Sox. Happiness would be to call on you again before time runs out. Keep healthy. I'll try to do the same. S.I.H. Vern Sund must have a special joke book. He always has a good one to give us a laugh Another good story teller is Henry Jackson. Hope to meet up with him again soon. My wife decreed that I buy a new hat. Now that I have one, the wind gets hold of it. No trouble with the old battered one. A hat pin is out -- so a string may be in order. I once knew a man who worked 25 years and retired on $100 a month pension. He and his wife moved out to the country to enjoy the last years of their lives. Then came inflation. Jo Ann Hutchinson is back at the line-o-type machine after a week in Florida. They went deep sea fishing and Bill caught a fish (small whale) so long that Jo Ann's outstretched arms aren't long enough to describe it. FAMOUS LAST WORDS: "The doctor is running a little behind today". "A little behind while big behinds are getting tired waiting. "I didn't think it was loddcd." "Don't call us. We'll call you." Some people will do anything for free ad vertising. Of course you saw that picture on the front page of the Plaindealer where a car knocked down a light pole and everything along the way. The story said the car cut a path of destruction 300 feet long. What the story didn't say was that Dan Justen had it pushed the last hundred feet so the picture would include his undamaged funeral parlor sign. We hadn't dined at Snug Harbor for some time so took advice from friends and toured down there on the banks of the beautiful Fox. Walked right past "Scotty" Thomas, his little Colleen (I call her Shamrock), their son and another big fellow whose name I forgot. A certain glare hit my eyes when we sat down. "Scotty had removed his hat. A gracious host, a waitress with a nice smile, and a fine meal made the evening complete-- Almost. It seemed we should see the Suttons and the Arm strongs at their favorite table. That was in days gone by. How could we be happier than when our door bell rang and we found little Joyce Koleno ready to present us with the first May basket of the season. Each signing a slip with different colored crayons, the note read "To Mr. and Mrs. Walsh - Joyce K., Stacey D., Maribeth K." K is for Koleno. D. is for Doherty (the Ron Dohertys). Three sweet little girls. Can't help lovin' them.
