And playing five games in as many days last week, the pitching is what came through for the Warriors as they closed out their week on Saturday. ' Wilson received a superb relief performance from senior Bill Herrmann in the first game of the doubleheader, then got a sparking complete game frdm senior Mike Dillon in the second game as McHenry downed Fox Valley conference foe Cary Grove by scores of 5-3 and 3- 2. The victories, which snapped a four-game losing streak, gave the Warriors their first two wins in con­ ference play against three defeats and evened their overall record at 4-4. McHenry will resume conference action on Wednesday, April 28 when it plays host to Crown in a 4:30 p.m. contest at McCracken field. Senior Doug Mullen started on the mound in game one against the Trojans, but survived only until the third inning when he was rescued by Herr­ mann after allowing three runs on five hits and four walks Herrmann, who was making his mound debut, finished off that frame and Cary-Grove for the remainder of the contest as he allowed only three hits and no walks the rest of the way. McHenry scored its first run in the bottom of the third inning when Dillon singled, stole second and third base and scored on Tore Sivert- sen's base hit. Wilson ordered the suicide squeeze and Williams delivered perfectly as not only Larsen, but also Dillon crossed home as well for the tying and winning runs. McHenry equalled Cary's output of eight hits in the contest with Cary Twice Dillon's 2-for-3 and two runs scored leading all batters. In the second game, Dillon started on the mound for the first time this season and also found the going a little rough. The Trojans scored two runs in the top of the first on one hit for an early lead. But Dillon would allow only one more single the rest of the game as again McHenry rallied back to win. The Warriors scored in their half of the first inning, tied the game in the third, and won the game in the fifth as Sivertsen scored the winning run on an error Sivertsen led all batters with two hits including a triple and two runs scored. Dillon also allowed only one walk, while striking four for his first win. Coach Gary Gray's netters opened Fox Valley con­ ference action last Thursday against Woodstock, but the Blue Streaks, like every other opponent that has faced the Warriors this season, were handed the same result. Playing without the ser­ vices of star number two singles player Randy Glick who was ill, McHenry nonetheless showed no signs of weakness as it blanked Woodstock 5-0. It was McHenry's seventh straight victory without a loss. The 5-0 score has been the Warriors' trademark thus far this season. The Streaks became the fourth team in as Polo Team Wins Two McHENRY -- McHenry high school's water polo team avenged a pair of earlier season losses by turning the tables on their opponents last week. On Tuesday, Mike Shanahan's Warriors edged Highland Park 12-7 as Pociask led the scoring with four goals. Other McHenry players reaching the scoring column were Schaeffer with three goals, Clewis with two, and Shaver, Daily, and Miller each with one. Goalkeepers were Cepulis with five saves and Kopp with two. On Wednesday, the Warriors defeated St. Viator 16-11 as Posiask again led the scoring with four goals. Daily and Schaeffer each added three, while Clewis, Cepulis, and Miller each scored twice. Kopp and Cepulis had 11 saves between them. The team, to play in the Northwest Palimino League, is for youths residing in McHenry, Johnsburg, Woodstock, Crystal Lake, and Cary. They'l play a 31- game schedule with 20 league games against teams from Skokie, Mundelein, Fox Lake, Palatine, and Arlington Park. A double elimination league tour­ nament is also on the schedule. CARY -- Delia Saunders remained undefeated this season in the 1600 meters and also captured the 800 meter event, but those were the only first place finishes for the McHenry high school girls' track team as it finished sixth among 11 teams in the McHenry County Meet at Cary-Grove Saturday. The Warriors, weakened by an injury to Lisa Thorne, finished with 40 team points to trail five other schools from the Fox Valley con­ ference. Woodstock captured five first places and added four seconds to easily win the meet with 111 points. Crystal Lake South was runner-up with 71 points, while the host Trojans were third with 70. Rounding out the scoring, it was Jacobs, fourth with 66; Crystal Lake Central, fifth with 53; McHenry, sixth with 40; Marengo, seventh with 39; Johnsburg, eighth with 27; Marian Central, ninth with 13; Alden-Hebron, tenth with 5; and Harvard, eleventh with 1. Thorne was lost to McHenry after she injured herself while competing in the high jump. She had also already qualified in the low hurdle events and had been expected to run in two relays as well. Johnsburg's senior star, Cheri Kofler, placed in all three of her events to ac­ count for most of the Skyhawk points. The Skyhawks defeated Round Lake on Monday, then took a measure against SHARK conference foe Marengo on Wednesday to raise their season record to 3-1. Against the Panthers on Monday, Dan Kiernan, Johnsburg's number one singles player had his match cancelled due to the rain. But the downpour didn't stop number two singles player Paul Hendrixson who remained unbeated with straight set wins of 6-1, 6-3. In the number three spot, Steve Switzer won by a 6-3, 2- 6, 6-1 score. Concluding the rest of Johnsburg's play for the day were the doubles team of Louis Koenigseder and Gene Weincouff who won the first set 6-2, and were. into the second set when rain halted play. "It would have been a sweep for us had the rain not stopped those two matches," said Skyhawk coach Denny Spraetz. Against the Indians on Wednesday, the Skyhawks had an easier time of it as all the singles and doubles players won. Kiernan finally got to play and easily won over his opponent in straight sets 8-1, 6-1 to improve his record to 3-0. Hendrixson also won in straight sets in number two singles 6-0, 6-1 and also improved to 3-0. Switzer took longer than his teammates, but wound up with the same result as he won 1-6, 7-6, 6-3.
