Carl Moesche Weber: The Catalyst In The Hurricane Lineup Bullpen By Car/ Moe&che Every team has its player that it depends on for leadership, stability, and for coming through in the clutch. For the Marian Central girl's Softball team, that player is Jackie Weber. A three sport star for the Hurricanes (all-conference in volleyball, basketball, and softball), Weber is coming to the end of a splendid prep career and is again trying to help her team win one more championship. A senior, Weber anchors the Marian defense from her shortstop position where she has few peers. Offensively„ she initiates the Hurricane offense which has been a potent force this season. - __ "The Big Red Machine" upped its record to 5-0 last week and 3-0 in the SHARK conference by downing conference opponent Johnsburg 13-4, and Weber was mainly responsible for the victory. Marian's leadoff hitter, Weber reached base all five times on a first inning walk then four straight singles. She also stole three bases and scored as many runs as the Hurricanes overcame an early 2-0 deficit to win earflly The game also marked the fifth straight that Weber has collected at least two hits. Currently she leads the team with a .571 batting average, stolen bases with 18, and runs scored with 16. As a team, Marian haa averaged over 12 runs per contest. "She's our leader," said coach Kathy Bull. "We look to her to get us going " My Player of the Week for April 25- May l: Jackie Weber of Marian Central.
