For you fans that missed the McHenry Relays last Friday night at McCracken field, youmissedprobablyone of the finest track meets held in the state. Hoffman Estates and St. Charles battled down to the wire, before the crew from the Chicago suburbs defeated the "Saints" 98-92. Four relay records were broken, and an event that will probably stand out in the minds of those in attendance, the 2-mile relay, which saw four teams battle it out, all breaking the previous record of 8:23. It was a race that those attending will never forget, as the four anchor men ran step for step for almost 880 yards. Another highlight was the discus, throw of a Belvidere individual who whipped out the discus a rounding 172 feet hitting the fence. Who knows how far the throw would have gone if for the fence? % Aric Akins, the Warrior sprinter, showed his heels to the field in the 100 yard dash in the time of 10.4.-The only other Warrior first place was in the -frosh-soph medley relay. The St. Charles crew was pen zone, winning both events, but being disqualified, thus losing 20 points, more than enough for the team title. Coach Trent Richards of the "Saints" was unhappy with his runners, but nevertheless accepted the decision of the lane judge without a iwk. quests to Bob Ludwigsen of McHenry and Harold Anderson of Kaneland, who finished the pole vault before six o'clock. These two gentlemen ran off the event in super record time. One can remember the event still going on at 10 p.m. In talking to the many coaches at the meet, the Question was always asked, McHenry runs a nice meet on a cinder track, they commented, It is the only cinder track in this part of the state, and when are you going to get an all weather track?" I pose this question to McHenry school officials, it is time to begin to at least think about an all weather track, at least some time in the near future? At one time, we had the best outdoor facilitlts in this part of the state, football lights, track, baseball diamonds. Not anymore, the lighting is poor, the track is something to be desired, and the baseball diamonds need a lot of work. If we are going to be competitive in athletics, we also must be competitive in facilities. Gary Gray's tennis team took it on the chin for the first time this season, when they dropped a 5-0 match to defending champions Crystal Lake South on Monday. The Warriors are now 10 and 1 on the season Brian Wilson has his baseball team in three league contests this week. Wenesday they played Jacobs, and tomorrow they play at Crystal Lake Central in a twin bill. This afternoon Don Sea ton will have his girls track team in the Fox • Valley meet at Cary Grove. Starting time is 3:30 p.m. Mike Shanahan's Water Polo team was selected Sunday night as one of the teams to compete in the State Meet held this week. On Wednesday they were to have met Fenwick of Oak Park the number two seeded team. Teams are selected by their records during the season. They defeated New Trier, Highland Park, St. Viators, and on Saturday Mt. Carmel of Chicago 13-9 to get the invitation to the meet. This js the fifth time the Warriors have participated in the State Polo finals, a McHenry High record. Along with all Warrior fans we are wishing Mike, and his team the best of luck. A note from the University of Illinois informs us that former Warrior Sue Hutchinson, daughter of the Bill Hutchinson's with a 20-8 record this season, was selected the Most Improved Player at the university. Sue is a ^Ijv^extend our congratulations along with all Warrior tens to Sue, and maybe one of these days she will be on the pro tour. According to Scandinavian lore a troll is a kindly, sometimes mischievous creature who dwells under bridges and other places. Well, a kindly soul is our golf course troll by the name of Doe Overton, who is rarely daunted by anything. When Marge Adams plopped her ball into the creek Dee removed her footwear, waded through the water, tip-toeing over the rocks and Under the bridge to retrieve the wet sphere.
