Historically high mortgage interest rates have brought the real estate and home construction industries to a virtual stand still. The McHunry Statu Bank is taking the lead in trying to help improve this situation by slashing mortgage interest rates to unbelieveable low levels during the month of June (longer if market interest rates permit). Interest rate deregulation and the volatility of rates have now made the long term fixed rate mortgage an apparent relic of the past. WONDER LAKE Anne Sowers 653-9549 Collect Funds For Fireworks It has been decided that collecting for the fireworks display will begin Saturday, June 12, and Sunday, June IS. The subdivisions have been assigned to the different organizations who are participating in this Fourth of July project. If someone does not come to your door on one of those two days, they will be there in the days to follow. It is hoped that every home in Wonder Lake will be contacted by a member of the committee this year. Areas to be covered are Sunrise and Giant Oaks - Lions Club; ind Shores - Lakers Snowmobile >; Wonder Woods and White Oaks Bay - Woman's Club of Wonder Lake; Wonder Center and Deep Springs l k 2 - Kiwanis club; Indian Ridge and Rktaeland road - American Legion; St. Francis Heights, Oakwood Shores, Wooded Shores - Ski dub; Lookout Point and Hickory Falls - Yacht club; Wander View and Green Hills - Lakers Snowmobile club; Mill Gardens - American Legion; business establishments (east side) - Steve Simon; business establishments (west side) - Jim Rachei. One donation from Sunrise Ridge has already been made enabling the committee to set up a checking account at the Wonder Lake State bank. If a surplus of money is collected over the cost of fireworks, the money will transferred into a savings account in order to have a head start on next year's show. The enthusiasm among the committee members has been great as I know it will be among the whole community toward this nroject. Other areas are struggling to come up with enough money to have a fireworks display, but with the cooperation from a community such as ours, we should have a great Fourth of July. TOPSQUEEN Estelle Jornd has received the honor of being chosen the 1982 TOPS Queen for the Wonder Lake chapter. Because of her efforts to "Take Off Pounds Sensibly", Estelle will now go on to compete for a state title. Congratulations to both Betty Harney and Rosemanr Wagner who have reached the KOPS status. That means that they have last the desired amount and are now "Keeping Off Pounds Sensibly". New officers have recently been elected. Those chosen for the new positions are: leader, Lorna Shroeder; co-leader, Pat Dusthimer; secretary, Mary McCarty; treasurer, Estelle Jornd- and weight recorder, Winifrea Diamond. The Wonder Lake TOPS meet every Thursday at Christ the King hall beginning at 1 p.m. WONDER LAKE GARDEN CLUB l's meeting was held at Maty 11 r'% home, where officers' reports were due and a slide presentation by Betty Alderson, "Celebration of Life , was substituted for a cancellation of scheduled programming. Plans were presented and carried out at Mrs. Doris Lockerbie's for our Mother's day candy tray favors for Valley Hi residents, a project always dear to our hearts. Installation of officers took place in May at "Ostend Acres", with each officer presented with a corsage, along with our best wishes. Mrs. Elaine Oslakovic has been selected as president and Mrs. Bobbi Fiali as corresponding secretary. Mrs. V S. Thompson was our guest speaker, collecting for fun or profit. What started years ago with who spoke on plate rofit. What started years friends and relatives giving plates as gifts, has become a fascinating hobby and a fascinating program. Our next meeting will be Thursday, June 10, at8 pm. at the home of Mrs. Louise Nawn, 7613 North drive, Wonder Lake. If you're interested in gardening, won't you join us? Publicity Chairwoman, B.
