Eight-year-old Karly made an impressive showing by taking fourth in the preliminaries in s field of 90 girls aged 10 and under. The top six move to the finals and Karly slipped to a fifth place finish by .09 of a point. The World Aero Games is the only international competition to power tumblers, which makes Karly this fifth ranked 10 and under power tumbler in the world. * - --- Tracey just missed the finals in the 19-14 age group by placing eighth in the preliminanea. Pat captured 19th place in the boys 10 and under age group, while Erin overpowering 12 girls in the 10 snd under age group. This international meet waa held by the USAF (United States Acro- gymnastics Federation) which is the national governing body of trampoline, tumbling, and double mini tramp. The USAF is a member of the International Federation of Trampoline and Tumbling which gives sll international sanctiona. Four years ago. the games were held in Hawaii snd in 1904 Japan will boat them. Six hundred competitors hailed from the USA, Canada, France, South Africa, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, Scotland, and England. McHenry coach Duane Sperry will be working hard with Erin, Karly, and Pat the next few weeks in preparation, for the USTA Nationals to be held at the University of Illinois st Chicsgo Circle June 10-20. slso made a good Home Maintenance Wins Twice McHenry Home Maintenance won a pair of gamee last week in the McHenry senior pigtsil lesgue defeating C.J.'s Doll Barn 17-5 and McHenry Police Association 104. In the first game, Barb Schoen pitched the win chalking up nine strikeouts and adding s double to the attack. Tracey Katiw aleo doubled for the winners, while' Shelly Sauars matched that to C.J.'s and teammate Linda Kath had a triple. Schoen, Katiw, and Erin Reeko all doubled in the second game for McHenry home Maintenance, while Yvette Fuiava contributed a three-run triple. Christine Vsn Dinther tripled for McHenry Police. In s Junior pigtsil game last week, McHetuy State Bank its first game of the year with a 0-4 verdict over Don's Dairy Frost. PatWirts JOHNSBURG - Johnsburg H.S. held its annual spring sports swards bsnquet last Wednesday night snd several athletes were recognized for their outstanding achievements. In boys baseball, senior first baseman Joe Meyer* was voted the Most Valuable Player after a .906 season which included 24 RBI's In 10 games. The team captain awards went to infielders Scott Zalke and Rob Peiaert. . In girls track, senior Cheri Kofler, who went to state for four straight years and holds the SHARK conference record in the long Jump, was a runaway choice for the MVP award. She also shared the captain award with Missy Christie, voted Moat Improved was hurdler Bridget Thome In boys track, Norm Rokosz was voted captain and Brian Siudak. who holds the school records in both the shot and the discus, was voted Moat Improved. Mike Steck received the 100 percent award, Rich Dschida was named captain for next season, and Jay Jackson, who holds both the Johnsburg and the conference 1000 and the 9900 meter records, earned the MVP award. In girls softbsll, senior shortstop Jsnice Schmittt was named MVP, and shared the captain award with senior Sue Dehn. Dan Kiernan. who advanced to state for the second straight year, was easily the boys' tennis MVP. The Junior Skyhawk. who won the last conference singles title, shared the captain award with Bob Stanell. Stanell teamed up with John Hendrixson to win the conference doubles crown Mr. Harry May also presented the Johnsburg Oldtimers Award to senior Larry "Hoagy" Dix. A member of both the football and baseball teams, Dix intends to use the scholarship to attend Iowa State University this fall. Runner-up was Joe Meyers. Dix ana Janice Schmitt were also voted the outstanding senior scholar awards. Dix ranks fifth in his class of 104 with a 3.052 GPA, while Schmitt ranks ninth with a 3.700 GPA. Schmitt participated in three sports - tennis, basketball, and softball and like Dix was a member of the National honor society. She will attend Winona State University this fsll. The outstanding senior athlete awards went to Sue Dehn and Tom Pieper. Dehn earned 10 letters at Johnsburg with four in basketball and three each in volleyball and softball. She has been a two-time AU-SHARK selection in each sport and is a former MVP in each sport. Dehn, who ranks 11th in the class, will attend Winona State University this fall. Pieoer earned seven letters at JohnsDurfl including two each in baseball, basketball, and golf, and one in football. In basketball, ne twice was awarded all-conference and all- county laurels and was voted MVP of the basketball team during his senior year. He was recently named all- conference on the baseball team.
