All juniors at McHenry Ugh school, Jim Justen, George Peterson, Dave Fantus, and Carl Walker were chooen to attend Boys State. Patty Blake ie among nearly 15,000 girls who will attend Girls State st MacMurray college. Work is expected to start next Monday on traffic lights at the in­ tersection of Green and Elm streets, according to word received at the last council meeting. The work will start pending approval by the state High­ way department. The council also accepted, with regrets, the resignation of second ward alderman Elmer F. Antonson. Aritoneon submitted his resignation because he moved out of the city limits. A wide range of outstanding art by county artists will be on display. The McHenry County College Faculty association has agreed to cooperate with s bosrd of trustees decision to freeze fsculty wages until the tax crisis in McHenry county is resolved and tax monies are released to the school. Dr. Edward Wilt, president of the Boerd of Heelth, said the deportment may not be eligible for state and federal funds in 1974 if the referendum is not passed. She was the only cafeteria employee remaining who started work when the cafeteria opened in 1950. Sgt.Murray Back To States SSgt. Robert Murray, an maintenance technician to the 1966th Communications group in Yokota, Japan, has been selected to attend the U.S. Air Force Officer Training and Pilot Training schools. He is expected to leave Yokota for the United States this month. The young man, formerly of Wonder Lake, is the son of Elaine Murray of Wonder Lake. His wife, the former Tammy O'Leory of McHenry, and two sons, Robert Lyn, 2Mt, and Duetto J., six months, ere with Sgt. Murray in Japan. v, v As en antenna maintenance technician, the sergeant travels to many on and off-base sitae to perfoiiu meintensnce on communications antennas. Sergeant Murray ie a former public affairs representative for the 1966CG While serving in that capacity, he was cited by the Pacific Communications division and the 475th AB Wing Public Affairs division for his outstanding performance. Sergeant Murray's quest for sn OTS slot began in 1977 while he was st- tending the USAF Basic Military Training school at Lackland AFB, Texas. He was inspired to further his education and career after hearing a talk by the commander of the BMTS "He became someone for me to look up to. He was prior enlisted and had become an officer through OTS. I realized that if he could do it, then so could I," said Sergeant Murray. Since his inspiration st basic training, the sergeant has made great strides in his AF career and off duty education. He was promoted to senior airman below the zone March i, 1960, and to staff sergeant July 1,1961, only three and one-half years after en­ tering the Air Force. In completing his education he attended courses held st Yokota, Camp Zama, and the Sanno Hotel to Tokyo. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in January. When asked what advice he would give others to regard to pursuing a degree, Sergeant Murray com­ mented, "Moot people put their education off until some other time; after they PCS, after they separate, or whatever. "The most important thing is to just get started." Sergeant Murray con­ tinued, "It is also important to know people support your efforts. I received excellent support from my wife, and the people I worked with; eepecially my commander, Colonel Bron-f nenberg." In an effort to help prepare for pilot training. Sergeant Murray became a member of the Yokota Aero club. He has completed 20 hours toward his private pilot license. He hopee to complete the final requirements in the near future. Simulated Combat Training Marine Pfc. Bradley H. Demke, son of Herbert O. ancfijUice M. Demke of 502 Castle rood, McHenry, recently participated in exercise "Gallant Eagle 82." He is s member of 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 27th Marine regiment, 7th Marine Amphibious brigade, Marine Corps Air Ground Com bet center, Twenty-nine Palms, Calif. "Gallant Eagle" involved more than 25,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines in a quick reaction live fire aggressed exercise. The training provided a simulated combat en­ vironment to train and evaluate the 7th Marine Amphibious brigade along with units of the Rapid Deployment Joint Task force in deeert terrain. Simultaneous operations were con­ ducted st Twenty-nine Palms and at the National Training center, Fort Irwin, Calif. Air support was staged from Twenty-nine Palms George and Edwards Air Force bases, Calif., the Marine Corpe Air station, El Toro, Calif., and Nellis Air Force base, Nevada.
