The following is a list of the various recreational programs. For further information on any of these programs, contact the Department of Parks * Recreation at S44-3300 An Instructional Basetall Program will be offend this summer to area youths between the ages of N. Sessions for this program will be beM at Petersen park, Freund field. West campw, andKmk park, floasliins meet twice a week for 45 minutes. This is an eight week program beginning die ~ of June 14, If A Junior Soccer Program for area youths between the ages of 13-16 is now being organized. Practices and games will be played at Knos park. Volunteer adult coaches will be uaed in this program. Adults interested in coaching or assisting should also call the Department of Parks 4 Recreation at 344-3300. The Department of Parks 4 Recreation is sponsoring a Youth Soccer Program for kids between the ages of fll Practice sessions will be scheduled at the following locations in McHtary: Petersen park, West campus, and Knox park. Practice sessions will be held mornings twice a week at each location. Sessions will be divided in age groups of $-7, 9-9, and 10-12 years of age. Boys and girls play together. 5 Games will be played on Saturday mornings at Fraud field and Knox park. This is an eight week program beginning the week of June 14. The foe for the program includes a team T-shirt. 1 June 14, game Eight foot height baskets and smaller balls will be used as teaching aids in this program Sessions will begin at McHenry junior high school on Monday, June 14 . and Monday, July 6 Both are two-week programs, each consisting of one week instruction and one week of games. The class time is from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration is now being taken at McHenry City Hall. Separate registration fees will be charged for those residents of McHenry School District 15 and for those who are non-residents. All registration Is on a ' first-come, first-serve basis. A limited number of openings for this program are available, so it is encouraged that you register early. The Department of Parks 4 Recreation Is designing a new program entitled Major Basketball. Terry Reilly, assistant varsity basketball coach at McHenry H.S., will place emphasis on fundamentals, conditioning, and weight training mated to basketball skill development. This instructional basketball program for ninth grade students and older will begin on June 14 and run tor six weeks. It will be held at East campus. A Track 4 Field CItalic is being offered this summer for area boys and girls between the ages of 0-18. This program will be held at McCracken field on Monday and Tuesday ever , 1962. Registration is now being taken for a Junior Aerobics Class for children ages 5-13. This is a musical dance - fitness program that will teach rhythm and increase your childs balance and coordination. Classes will begin the week of June 14 and be held at the Chance to Dance Place. The 5-8 year-okl children will be taught by Sue O'Leary and theO-13 year-olds will be taught by Eileen Kurinsky. So help your child to harness the summertime feeling of boundless energy and channel it into a beneficial fitness exercise. The Department of Parks 4 Recreation is taking registration for their Teens Dance 4 Exercise Program which begins on June 15. This class is for 8-15 year-olds and will include general fitness exercise, health education instruction, and aerobic dance. The Department of Parks 4 Recreation is sponsoring a Golf Instruction Class for both adults and children 9-15 years old. The program is designed to teach the beginning golfer the fundamentals and rules of the game of golf. Proper use of different clubs and etiquette will be emphasized. The class will be held at Petersen park on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for two weeks. The fee includes greens fee for nine holes. This program is open to all area residents of all ages. There is no fee for this ĉm ! City of McHenry Knox Psrk Swimming Pool opened on Saturday. June 5 and will remain open during the week. Hours for weekends are 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The hours are on the weekdays are 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Time is set aside for adult swimming for people 16 years of age and older. These times are 5-6 on Monday thru Friday and 11-12 noon on Saturday and Sunday. Season passes are now available at City Hall and must be secured there. After an initial scare, S 4 L has settled down and has won two straight impressive gsmes to stake its record at 3-0 in the loop. In the season opener, S 4 L went down to the wire before downing Locker's Flowers 8-7. But while the score was close, the play was not. S 4 L earned all eight runs with every player in the starting lineup hitting safely at least once. Locker's on the other hand, received 10 walks of which six were converted into runs. Jenny Rickert started on the mound for S 4 L but lasted only the third inning when Holly Brandenburger came in a turned in a supurb relief performance by not allowing any more walks.' Homers Lift Bike Haven Glenkirk Benefit Runs Slated LAKE FOREST -- Over 300 runners are expected to turn out" for the Glenkirk Run on Sunday, June 27 on the grounds of the Glenkirk home, 1000 N. Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest. Both 3,000 snd 6,000 meter runs sre scheduled. Registration with entrry fee will start at 7:00 a.m. with the 3,000 meter event beginning at 8:00 and the 6,000 meter event at 8:45. Each contestant will be given s T- shirt and awards will be given in seven categories of each race. Tours of the Glenkirk Home, a residential facility housing 32 mentally retarded youngsters, will be svsilable. Com­ plimentary coffee, juice, rolls, and fresh fruit will be served. All proceeds benefit the over 800 mentally retarded children and adults served by Glenkirk Association for Retarded Citizens, s comprehensive social service agency headquartered in Northbrook. Interested runners shoud call 172- 5111 to pre-register. Wally's Bike Haven exploded for 18 runs in the last two innings and went on to easily defeat McHenry State Bank 27-13 in a McHenry junior pigtail game last week. Brenda Bromly and Betsy Johnson combined pitching duties to help Wslly's to its third win of the saaaen in only five innings. Wslly's, which banged out 27 hits, used the long bell to decide the contest as Tabitha Kenney hit a grand slam homer, a triple, and a single to drive home nine runs! Timberlee Steward (4-for-5), Cristine Roper (3-for-4), and Johnson (2-for-31 also homered lor the winners. Julie Erkenswick, and Gil Beilon also had fine nights st the i with four straight hits, while Billie Jean Van Cleave went 2-for-S and Angel Coles scored three runs. Slate Bank was led by Julie Simek, Jenny Simmons who singled in their only at bats, and Danielle White and Tracy Prazak who added doubles. State Bank scored moet of its runs taking advantage of 20 Bike Haven base on balls. Earlier, McHenry State Bank won its second game of the season defeating Adams' Radiator 17-16 in a nip and tuck affair. hitting stars for the winners in­ cluded Julie Simek with two triples, Tracy Prazak with a grand slam homer, and Carlee Casperson, also belting a homer. Adams' aflso played long Erin Dass/hit two roundtrii eluding a grand slam team. Candyman's Closet won its second of the season defeating McHenry State Bank 19-8. Cory Witt pitched tbe win for Candyman and benefitted from an 18- hit attack Loading hitters for Can­ dyman included Carmi Schultz (4-for- 4 and three runs scored), Kim Amore (4 for-4 with two doubles and three RBl's), Jill Tracy (4-for-4 and two runs scored), and Amy Sauers with a three-run homer. Ann Schoen and Kim Snyder added two RBI's each. Defensively, Tracy apd Cheryl Kurowski made fine defensive plays in the outfield, and Amore made a great stop of a line drive to double off a State Bank runner off first base. Stste Bank was led by Carlee Casperson and Tammy Klessen who each had two hits and the defense of , Jenny Eiserman who made a fine play at third base to prevent another Candyman run State Bank won its first game of the season edging Don's Dairy Froet 64 in a brilliantly pitched game by Tammy ^Klassen Carlee Casperson again had a big night for State Bank with a triple, a single, and two walks, and Tracy Morjal who also had two hits and a walk ball as Strippers in­ to lead her Offensively, S 4 L was led by Kris Kleeman and Brandenburger, each who went 3-for-4. Kleeman included a triple for the longest hit of the day. A pleaaant surprise for S 4 L was the showing of substitutes Kim Kunser <2- for-2) and Jenny Gibeon (l-for-2). S 4 L totaled 20 hits in the ballgame. Top defensive performancea were turned in by Beth Grave at second base, Cindy Marinangel at first base. Kim Belzer at shortstop. Dawn Km sala at catcher, Kleeman at third base and Brandenburger on tbe mound. Locker's was led by the dsfeneive play of catcher Cindy Shaver, and the offensive performance of Hoffman who had three hits. In the seoond gsme, S 4 L invoked the slaughter rule by walloping McHenry Police 27-1 smashing a season high 33 hits in five innings. While S 4L used four pitchers in the game, Jenny Ricker again chalked the win and added five straight hits. Also going 5-for-5 were Kris Kleeman and Dawn Kineala. v. Kim Belzer took over the mound duties in game three as S 4 L ousted Yeggee Accounting 9-1. Her team­ mates supported her pitching debut by not allowing a single ball to be hit out of the infield. Dawn Kineala again had a fine night at the plate with an inside the park homer, while Belter and Cindy Marinangel aided the cauee with run- scoring triples. S 4 L totaled 18 Kits in the contest, while Belser and Jenny Ricker, who pitched the seventh, limited Yeggee to only two infield singles. Kersh snd Stasiak managed the only hits for Yeggee. In other games, league leader McHenry Home Maintenance bombed Wally's Bike Haven 22-3 to remain undefeated at 40. Winning pitcher Yvette Fuiava carried her teem to victory with six strike outs and only four walks. Greet defensive plays by her teammates kept Wallys from scoring more than they did. Home Maintenance scored six runs in each of the first, second, and sixth innings, and scored four timee in the third to win eesily. They outhit Wally's 16-7. Nancy Diedrich led Wally's with a triple. Home Maintenance won its third game 5-3 over Yegge Accounting aided by a late inning double play. Barb Schoen hurled the win and added a triple in the third inning which knocked in the winning runs. In its second gi tenance handled In its second game, Home Main- snance handled McHenry police Association 18-3 as Yvette Fuiava tripled to score a couple runs, and teammates Barb Schoen.
