Convention x City Furnishes Water If Needed possible water outages Lakeland rk residents may experience Chicks In the Classroom Eight baby chicks hatched between May 13-15 in Kevin O'Connor's second grade class at Edgebrook school. They are viewed with interest by Holly Willis and Falco Baltys, whose parents, Paul and Ann Baltys, gave the eggs to the school for the project. An Incubator was borrowed from the biology department at East campus. The youngsters in the class learned about the embryo growth and development, the importance of temperature and humidity In Incubation, and how the chlch hatches from the egg. The birth of the chicks provided not only a science learning experience for the children but also gave material for lessons In story writing, math, reading and art. Other students irotn Edgebrook visited the classroom and shared in the learning experience. The Baltys family will raise the chickens at their McHenry (arm. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE OAYLORD In last week's column I mentioned the Pari during the Meadow lane construction The question was raised as to what would happen if there would be a fire in our area when the water was shut off. There is no need to worry, because an auxiliary line has been hooked up at Petersen park, going into the city water line. Whenever our water goes off, it will only be for a abort time instead of hours. This will not eliminate the need to boil your drinking water, though. MAIL TAMPERING It has been called to my attention that many areas of Lakeland park are being bothered by people going into and damaging residents' mailboxes. One of my neighbors finds her mailbox overflowing with grass clippings every morning. There also have been times that opened mail has been found blocks away from the address it should be at. Going through other people's mail and boxes is a federal offense. Because of the large amount of complaints in our area the authorities are watching. If these culprits are caught they can be fined and put in jail. MEETING The Lakeland Park Refunders club met last Tuesday, June 8. I apologize for not printing the date and time the week before so more people could attend. My regrets alao to those I contacted for the little time I gave them to prepare for the evening. It's time for Washington to get its act together v m AMERICA'S BANKERS SHARE YOUR CONCERN ABOUT THE FUTUREI Everyday we talk with the farmers and small businessmen who are struggling to cope with the double Impact of economic recession and high Interest rates. We also see the far reaching consequences of the disasters within Industries such as hous ing and auto affecting every neighborhood and community In this nation. We feel enough Is enough. ITS TIME TO PUT PARTISAN POLITICS ASIDE! We have reached a crisis state, and America's bankers are appealing to both Congress and the White House to put par tlsan politics aside and reach a com promise that will put us on the road to recovery. We are certain that Interest rates can't come down until a credible budget program Is adopted. lb be realistic, such a program must at least Include these three things: 1. A significant downward trend In the ratio of government spending to gross national product. 2. A significant downward trend In the absolute dollar level of the budget deficit. 3. Cleer evidence that the Congress and the Administration are will ing to make hard choices on expenditures (and taxes. If necessary). BECOME INVOLVEDI We've let you know how we feel, and now we urge you to write your Senators and Representatives to let them knfev that you expect them to achieve a workable compromise. Immediately Our bank has a longstanding commitment to this community and the sooner Wash ington puts the economy on the road to recovery, the sooner we can provide credit at affordable rates, and help our fttends and neighbors work for a prosperous tomorrow. MEMBER FD1C MAMtPVBASUr *&r Too Much Money Inflation has been blamed on everything from greed, "high" interest rates, and spend-cra/y and debt-happy consumers, to food retailers, Arab oil producers, unions and "big" business. Economics tells us that none of these factors or groups cause inflation. The real cause of inflation is fairly simple. It occurs when the money supply grows faster than the total output of products and services. That is, when we have too much money chasing too few goods. In recent times the U.S. money supply has grown two to three times faster than the growth of the economy's out put. The result: increasing inflation.
