Doug Freund, the Nail's leadoff batter, singled and scored the first run of the game on Kevin Freund's two- run double. Freund later scored the ninth run of the first inning when he hit a three-run inside the park homer. During the 10-run second inning, Freund scored run No. 16 after drawing a base on balls. In the third, Freund scored after doubling to left- center for the Nail's 22nd run In the fourth, Freund scored a pair of runs (No.s 29 & 37) after reaching base both times on base hits. Finally, in the fifth inning, Freund scored run No. 42 giving him seven runs scored altogether on a 6-for-€ evening. PatWirtz Annual Hiller & Hamm Tournament Set This Weekend On the weekend of June 18-20, the annual Miller High Life Hiller & Hamm Tournament will take place at Knox park, McHenry This 32-team tournament guarentees two games with entry fee and cash prizes will be awarded to the top four teams along with the consolation champion. Official ASA rules will govern the tournament and each team is required to supply one 12-inch official inseam softball Twenty players, plus manager and coaches are the per sonnel limits Playing manager counts as a player. No protests will be allowed, umpires decision will be final A 10 minute grace period will be granted to put at least nine men on the field. A 12-run slaughter rule will be enforced, except for the championship game. Rosters and entree fees should be submitted to tournament directors Mr Jim Meyers, 2313 Country Lane, McHenry. The Hiller & Hamm travelling team had earlier taken third place at the at the Waukegan Pabst Classic in Waukegan Bill Meyers pitched three victories for Hiller & Hamm and added home runs in each of the first three games. Don Bentz followed with a pair of roundtrippers himself. Hiller & Hamm settled for third place after being knocked out of the tournament by Stanich Realty of Kenosha 12-10. Harvard Players Lead First Ever All-County Team WOODSTOCK -- Harvard's Hor nets, McHenry County's moat suc cessful Class A baseball team in 1182, snared five honors on the Wootbtock Daily Sentinel's first animal all- county small school team. Four Hornet players were picked at various positions while Harvard coach Mark Andrews was named Class A coach of the year. Following Harvard in the numbers of honors was Johnsburg, which placed four players. Marengo and Richmond-Burton had three each while Marian Central, Richmond- Burton and Huntley each had two. McHenry County coaches exptessetl a surprising consensus in most positions when asked to nominate team members. And there's reason why since there were a number of standout ballplayers this season. The Daily Sentinel made the final selec tions based on the coaches' nominations. By position, here's the best in McHenry County in Class A: First Base Johnsburg's Joe Meyers was a unanimous all-SHARK Conference selection. The senior Skyhawk hatted .365 and knocked ia 24 rhi's. Brian Boersma, Marengo, hit only .250 but he was flawless for the Indians in the field committing no errors during the season. Second Base Scott Zalke, Johnsburg, also earned all-SHARK honors. He hatted only .2S9 hut set a school record as he haadled 71 fielding chances without aa error. Richmond-Burton's Craig Komar, only a freshmen, batted a bristling .460 for the season. Third Base Marengo's Bob Koeller was s unanimous all-SHARK selection and was picked by the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches' Association as a member of the aU Northern Illinois area team. He batted .393 for the Indians and also pitched. Don Rickert, Marian, also did double duty for the Hurricanes as alternated between pitching and third base. Doug Miller, Richmond-Burton hit .408 in 18 games for the Rockets and committed only one error all season. Shortstop Dennis Hansen, an all-SHARK team member from Marengo, hit Just .224 but he was an outstanding fielder for the Indians. Outfield Harvard's Mike Shepherd, a unanimous all-SHARK pick, led his team in batting with a .436 average and stole 27 bases. Johnsburg's Tom Pieper, another all-league selection, was a .279 hitter for the 8kyhawks while Marian Central's John Mkeli batted an even .499 for the Hurricanes. Richmond-Burton's Scott Jones hit .375 for the Rockets and stole 18 bases. Designated Hitter Huntley's Paul Eisenmenger, who also played first base, hit for a .483 average for the Redskins. Pitchers Harvard's Mark Gullickson, an all- SHARK selection, was 7-3 for the Hornets with a 2.20 earned run average. Teammate Shawn Gerard, a league honorable mention, went 5-1 for the Hornets and had a 2.10 ERA. Johnsburg's Larry "Hoagy" Dix was only 2-3 for the Skyhawks, hut he had a 2.53 ERA and earned all-SHARK honors. Coach of the Year Harvard's Mark Andrews guided the Hornets to a 16-8 record and a Ue with Hononegah for the SHARK Conference title with a 6-2 mark.
