"Many people feel the roods are In worse condition now than they were eight years ago and yet they are spending $40,000 a year. People are up in arms about it. In April, the Village of Wonder Lake board of trustees acted on a limited rood program, with additional work to be done as money became available. Village Clerk Duane Zeman noted at the meeting that the village did not qualify for matching funds from the ststs Trsnsportstion department because of insufficient population. According to Rachel, once the signatures on the petitions have been notarized, the petitions will be presented to the village clerk, Duane Zeman. By law, he said, she will give them to tne county clerk. When asked if there would be enough certified signatures on the petition to have the referendum placed on the November ballot, Rachel said, "Absolutely We had more than we needed last night." Clever attorneys were aware that two conflicting drinking driving laws had passed in the General Assembly and are charging that because of those actions the stricter bill is invalid. The State believes the courts will rule that the harsher bill reflects the legislative intent snd will be sllowed to stand. In the mood of the cititenry to clamp down on irresponsible drivers, the decision would not be unexpected. In our area there are others who are he move, bet fn^jl thOOe to be in their early teens. ' Only when they were ready did they move on. And property baa not escaped.
