Sponsored by the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA), 35 Special Olympians from McHenry County were among the 2,800 participants from throughout the state who competed in track and field and swimming events. In McHenry County, an athlete must qualify for competition at the state games by winning a first place gold medal at the area II games, which are held each year in May at Mundelein high school. State champions for the NISRA group were gold medalists: McHenry: Bob Simon, softball throw; Woodstock: Ruby Young, softball throw; Glenn Waihman, 25 yard freeatyle; Carolyn Knox, 50 yard dash; Rita Wildkatsch, 220 yard dash; and Crystal Lake. Hiller Construction and John's Sport Stop, the two teams favored to win their respective dhriskm in men's 10-inch softball, coutinued to pot two games between them and their nearest competitors with impreeshre victories last week. Hiller broke a 2-2 tie with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to defeat Decker Construction 11-2. Hie win waa the tenth strait without a loaa for the weetern division leaders. Phil Oeffling, who went 3-for-3 with a triple to lead all batters, acored the go-ahead run in the fifth on a single by John Meyers. Oeffling had opened the frame with s hit and advanced on s Decker error. John Meyers, Jeff Meyers, and winning pitcher Jim Meyers all followed with two hits each and Jeff and Myron Bentz added two RBI's. Decker took a 2-0 lead after its first at bats as Jim Grabowski scored on an error and Jim Pinkataff croaaed the plate on a Kevin Miller hit. But Decker managed only one more hit in the contest, that being Doug Mayer's single in the fifth. - Decker Construction Hiller Construction 2444444- 2 S4-Z4-7-Z-X -11 With SD'a km, St Regis Pub took over undiaputed second place in the West by hammering Taylor Made Golf 17-2. The Pub acored in every inning to win handily in five framea. Dave Oeffling allowed only three hits and two unearned tuna in picking up the win. Jim Althoff bad a big night for the winners going 2-for4 with a home run, double, androur runs acored. Brian DiBlasi also had three straight hits for St. Regis, while Bob Michels went 2- for-2 and Gary Roaing also had two hits. St. Regis Peb 14-244-17 Taylor Made Golf S44S-2- 2 HRs-(St.R)J.AMbeff 1(2). Mark Bentz had four hits including two home runs, a double, three runs scored, and seven RBI's to help J K L Oil snap a four-game losing streak by trouncing FCA-Palace Bowl 21-3 in five innings. The victory kept the Oilers alone in second place in the East at 0-4. Winning pitcher Dan Quinn helped his own cause by also going 4-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI's. Gende's performance included scored and four RJBTs, and Thomas alao score A1 Lyne had tlvea etraight hits including a double to lead DVB and improve Ua western division leading batting average to <71. D OM 04-2-1444- J S44-744-X - M John's Sport Stop had surprisingly little trouble with 3D-Bowl winning in a five-inning 15-0 rout. Both teams had entered the content with identical 7-2 records and on their way to playoff berths. Sport Stop dominated play from the start to finish scoring in every inning. Bob Jaworski's one-out single in the bottom of the sixth scored Bob Hlousek and Joe Rakovich to invoke the 15-run rule. Jaworski had two of the Sport Stop's 16 hits good for three RBI's and added a sparking per­ formance at shortstop. Rick Wakitsch led all batters with four straight singles, three runs scored, and two RBI's. His per­ formance improved his average to .710, tops in the league. Other hitters with a big night included Tom Lea (single, triple, two runs scored), Bob Hlousek (double, triple, two runs scored, and winning pitcher John Pilobosian (2-for-3). 3D-Bowl John's Sport Stop •44444- 0 2-2-3-2-3-3-15 with four straight hits including two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI's. Marty Lambert and Steve Lane added three hits each. Roger Wilhoyt had two hits in­ cluding a home run and Eric Wales singled and tripled to lead FCA- Palace Bowl. JALOU 84-1-74-21 FCA-Palace Bowl 14-14-1 - 3 HRs-(JAL)Ma.Bentz 2(8). Peer Inn recorded an easy 15-0 six- inning shutout over Phylly's Inn as Leon Palatas hurled the third three- hitter of the week in picking up the win. Palatas also had a good night at the plate with two hits as did manager Kip Novotney. Topping that performance was Randy Vauk who had four straight hits including a double and four runs scored, while Ray Karaatz also showed his stickwork going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run, three runs scored, three RBI's, besides a fine defensive game in short centerfield. CfcrWoeoche Home Maintenance Wins Three Games McHenry Home Maintenance won three recent contests to improve its league leading record to 10-2 in the McHenry senior pigtail league. < Home Maintenance opened play with a lopsided 34-0 victory over WaUy's Bike Haven in a five inning affair. The winners banged out 33 hits in the contest compared to only five that winning hurler Yvette Fuiava gave up to WaUy's. Fuiava and Michelle DeLisle paced the well balanced hitting attack with a duble and a triple each. Erin Reeko also tripled for the winners. Double plays turned in by Fuiava and DeLisle in the third and fourth innings, respectively, helped to keep the Bike Haven from getting into scoring position. Win number nine was a come-from- behind 23-15 slugfest over Yegge Accounting. Yegge's Denise Stasiak and Kriaty Cullison smacked doubles in the nine- run second inning which temporarily put their team ahead by 10 rune. But Home Maintenance scored five runs in each of the next three innings, then put the game away with a six-run sixth. Barb Schoen highlighted the come back with a bases loaded triple in the sixth. DeLisle started on the mound for Home Maintenance, but gave way to Schoen in the third, and Fuiava in the fifth. Fuiava pitched a fine game againat Locker's Flowers as Home Main­ tenance won by a convincing 13-1 margin. Fuiava collected seven strikeouts and issued no walks and but six hits in her complete game outing. Great defensive {days led by Tracey Kotiw and DeLisle aided in the win with the duo teaming for a game- ending double play in the seventh. DeLisle, Kotiw, and Fuiava alao hit doubles for the winner's 15-hit attack. Locker's got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Lori Oeffling recorded a run-scoring aingle. Heather Wirtz alao game fielding plays including aseieting on a near triple play in the sixth inning. UW A T uirevui IU| «IU§IW. er Wirtz alao played a good for Locker's with several key Favorite Sport Improves To 11-1, Candyman's Closet Wins A Pair In McHenry junior pigtail league action last week, first place McHenry Favorite Sport had an easy time againat Don's Dairy Frost as the league leaders posted a 13-0 shut out. After a marginal 3-0 lead after two innings, Favorite Sport erupted for nine runs in the third to out the game away at 12-0 on base hits by Covalt, Shiela Roy, Stephanie Quantz, and Jenny Rourke, a triple off the bat of Wendy Biggerstaff, and a grand slam home run by Kristy J us ten Jus ten started on the mound for Favorite Sport and did a fine job of holding down the Don's hitters. She struck out the side in the first and collected two whiffs in each of the second and third innings before giving way to Karen Keeeler. Keealer waa just aa impreasive as she struck out nine of the 14 batters to face her over the final three framee. Despite pouring rain and toeing by a 134 score in the fifth, Don's would not allow the game to be called. But a|f game's end, there was no doubt who the victor would be. Favorite Sport raiaed its record to 11-1. Candyman's Cloeet won a pair of gamea edging McHenry State Bank 23-22 and winning a 10-1 run-rule contest over Don's Dairy Front. Against State Bank, Jill Tracey <3- for-4), Cheryl Kurowski (3-for-4), Kim Snyder (3-for-3), Cory Witt (two home runs), Amy Sauers (S-for-4), and Kris Weinholtz (2-for-3) were the big guns for Candyman's. Erin Boland, who waa robbed of base hits on some outstanding fielding plays by State Bank shortstop Carrie Brackman, came up with the game winning hit in the final Inning aa her line drive in the outfield acored Roe Waychunas and Uaa Doerfert with the tying and winning runs. State Bank waa led by Tammy Klasen's 3-for-4 and Brackman's two hits and outstanding defeneive game. Kim Amore gave up but three hMi but had three of her own Including a home run in the victory over Don's Dairy Froet. Kim Snyder's 2-for4 and An ' Sauer's home run aleo aided In i win.
