The eight young ladies received one excellent and three superior evaluation ribbons, the Spirit Stick for having outstanding spirit, cooperation, and courtesy, and the Technical Development Improvement District Championship trophy. This trophy was one of the five highest awards given at the camp. The 1982-83 squad includes from left to right in the first row: Cindy Johnson, Terry Bunday, and Chris Petersen. In the second row: Val Kilday, Kelly Sue Thomas (captain), and Kathleen Jagier. In the third row: Sandi Musielak and on top: Lisa Thorne. Mrs. Jean Natoli accpmpanied the squad as advisor. The 1902 12-inch AH Star doubleheader is slated to begin at 12:00 noon on Sunday, July 21 on the Knox park softball diamond. In 19B0, the eastern division stars won easily by scores of 27-15 and 27-20. Last year, the East won a much doser 10-7 victory, but the West followed with a 5-3 rain-shortened victory. This season's All Star squads are evenly matched with the western division starting lineup holding the upper hand in the categories of runs scored, hits, RBI's, and baiting average. The eastern stars held a slight advantage in extra base hits. Let's look at the starting linsops: Eastern Division Pitcher: Bill Meyers (Pox Hole) 20 hits in 34 et bats, 21 runs scored, 17 RBI's, five dubles, SOB ave. Bill Meyers, Joe Dehn, Jeff Meyers, and Tom Burke were all unanimous choices in the East as voted by the league representatives on July 18. Both Meyers' phis Dehn hail from the Fox Hole Tap, while Burke is from West End Pub-Kiss It. Six starters with nine players altogether will be wearing Fox Hole uniforms in Sun day's classic. Six players will be represented from the West End Pub. In the western lineup, Jerry Brodin from Doherty's plus two Rusty Nail outfielders • Dave Sundby and Doug Freund • were the unanimous selections voted by their respective division managers. Brodin currently leads the league in hitting with a .706 mark. Sundby is hot on Brodin's heels with a .677 average while Freund adds great defensive play, quickness on the hasepaths and a ..579 hatting average. Five Johnsburg Businessmen are listed in the West's starting lineup, while the Nail placed four. The Nail adds three more on the bench to take honors with seven players altogether. Doherty's has five players represented. Where the East will have the ad vantage is in their bench strength. Steve Dobner ( .850), Wayne Roewer (.564). Fred Stocker (.560). Mike Petersen < .50), Rick Wiegman < .591), Gary Gilpin (.599). Tom Wallen (.514), Pete Blackburn (.580), Bob Michels (.444). and Pat Burke (.438) give the East plenty of power and fielding. In the West, Rick Wakitach (.818), last year's MVP heads the list of non- starters. He will be joined by Jim Perriwe (.580), Tom Spasojevich (.580), Randy Vauk (.488), Frank Cuda (.478), JohnConnell (.878), Irish DeCiccio (.463), Leon Palates (.455), Rick Bielski (.898), and Kevin Freund (.400). An interesting sidekick is that five members of the western division starting lineup at one time played for eastern division teams. Managing the East will be Ken Prazak, who has been in charge df his second place West End Pub-Kiss It team. Prazak was in charge of last season's Wayne's ballclub which finished runner-up to the Fox Hole in both regular season and post season play. Prazak will have John Sytama from the Whale's Tall and Dave Oeffling from Peer Inn-Jack's Snack Shop as base coaches. Kevin Bauer will skipper the western stars. Bauer led the Rusty Nail to a 1981 second place finish and this season, the Nail is in third place, only a game and a half behind the leaders. Coaching the bases for Bauer will be Jim Szamlewski from Lee ft Mary's Lakeside Inn and Tom Roach from Dainty's. v ^ The current standings are as Division Fox Hole Tap 10 West End Pub-Kiss It 8 Whale's Tail 6 King's Row 5 Peer Inn-Jack's Snack Shop 5 Little John's l w 18 10 8 4 5 0 Johnsburg Businessmen Doherty's Rusty Nail Inn Huemann's f •mi •!
