Have Bed, Will Travel I Staff Photos - Wayne Gaylord LAKELAND PARK & LAKELAND SHORES Carol Cominsky 065-7246 Jaycees Promote Safety Project Carl Smith called to let me know about the latest project the McHenry Jaycees have undertaken. You will hear and see about "Operation Kedball" if you attend any Fiesta days activities this week. These red circle stickers are available to all residents to display in bedroom windows where children or invalids sleep If there is ever a fire in your home the firemen will know to go to those windows and make sure everyone has safely escaped. Jaycees will be passing these stickers out at the chicken barbecue Friday night and you can also see the Kedball chicken marching In the Fiesta days parade Sunday. If you want to get stickers, call Carl Smith at 385 4895 or me at 385-7246. We will see that you get the amount you need. This is for all of McHenry, not just Lakeland Park. TRY AGAIN Circle Saturday. Sept. 11, on your calendar; that is the date the Lakeland Park Property Owners association is going to make a last ditch effort for a picnic. The past few years, their picnics have not been very successful, so if this year's proves to be a failure it will be the last. I urge all of you to pack up your family and come to the community house at 8 p.m. that day. The association is going all out to supply delicious food, a band for your dancing and listening enjoyment and some fantastic prizes donated by local merchants. Let's all make this year's picnic a huge success so we can continue having one in years to come. KEEP DOGS HOME A little three-year-old boy was bitten by a stray dog last week while he was walking down the street with his older slater. It was a hot humid day and this stray animal was probably tired of roaming so he turned on the closest target. Again I plead with dog owners to make sure their pets are home where they belong. MEETING The Lakeland Park Refunders will meet again Wednesday, Aug. 11. We Twenty-eight teams participated la the bed race event of IVfcHenry's Fiesta Days last Saturday. We can't have any of you wasting time and gas. KEEP OUT The berms at the Weat beach are very deep and signs are poated to warn people to stay out, but I've been told kids are hanging out there every night. Anyone entering this area is doing so at his own risk. If you know your children are over there please remind them that no one is supposed to be at the beach until the work is completed. Joel and I gave a party celebrating Mike's high school graduation on Saturday, July 17. We planned it for July thinking we could count on it being a warm day. We never expected it to be the hottest and most humid day of the summer. Our SO guests arrived wilted, some driving two hours to get here. After a delicious buffet dinner, some of our guests walked to the east beach to enjoy a cool dip in McCullom Lake. It was a great day, one we will all remember in years to come. On Sunday, luly 18, Connie and Mike Mohawk had 25 people over to their house to celebrate Jenny's third birthday. Connie outdid herself preparing lots of good food that everyone really enjoyed. Little Jenny recieved so many nice gifts it was like Christmas in July at the Mohawk home. The next party was Monday, July 19, at the home of Linda Krickl. She and Debbie Miller were co-hostesses at a bridal shower for Julie Bit- terman, who is going to marry Kevin Shay on Sept. 11. The bride-to-be thought she was enroute to a tup- perware party in Wonder Lake with her mother Barb, making a quick stop at Linda's home. Needless to say Julie waa surprised when she stepped in side and saw all those familiar facea. The guests who yelled 'surprise* were her future mother-in-law, Alyce Shay, Lottie Bykowski, Ann Kuc- zkowski, Vicki Sadowski, Pat Miller, Marilyn Meyer, Florence Minikowski, Kay Mahoney and Darlene Michelsen Julie received many lovely gifts, perfect for a girl getting ready for married life. LUAU Karen and Bob Doessel opened their home July 17 for son Bob and his wife Diane's third annual Hawaiian luau. Forty guests were on hand, wearing some colorful Hawaiian costumes and received the customary leis upon entering. Jeanne Watkins waa there with son Tommy and daughter Debbie with her boyfriend Paul and older son Steve and his girl Nancy. As usual the luau was a success and everyone looks forward to next year's party. Karen had a week to recuperate before she was off to her 25-year reunion of Evanaton Township high school on July 24. The class of 1967 met at the Elks club in Evanaton. Karen was wondering if there are any McHenry residents who were also there that night and in her class. You can give me a call if you were and I can put you in touch with her. BIRTHDAYS Michael Bunting turns io today, July 26, and he celebratea with Rich Reining and Art Kreutier.
