All of tl.® swine are charted on the "big sheet" by the superintendents. After the entries are charted, they divide the swine into five or six weight classes. The classes range from 190 pounds up, with breaks in 10-pound increments. Usually, eight to 10 swine are in a class. "It give them (the kids) a little more in centive," Hallisy says. "Sure, we could lump them all in three weight classes. This way we divide up the classes more even ly." It takes about four hours for four men to chart the swine on the big sheet and divide them into weight classes, Hallisy says. Then a ring sheet is drawn up for dividing up the prize money. Thursday morning at 8:30, the 4-H and junior judging begins. "That's when the rat race really starts," Hallisy says. One judge is hired for the Thursday show and another is hired to judge the open show Friday. The judging will continue until about 5 p.m. "Then we've got to go and do the bookwork after that," Hallisy says. The sale order for Saturday afternoon's auc tion will be worked on. The 4-H and junior champions will be sold first, the open class entrants. Swine are auctioned after the sheep and cattle. ' _- The kids are permitted to sell two animals. To enter the sale, the kids have to have a release signed by their parents and themselves. , On Thursday two main things happen: the top 4-H club swine exhibit and the showmanship awards. The competition among the 4-H clubs is strong. "It's like the White Sox and Brewers playing ball," Hallisy says. Friday is a repeat of Thursday with the open show judging for FFA members and the public. Most 4-H'ers also show in the open division, Hallisy jays. The sale begins at noon Saturday. "It's an all-afternoon affair," Hallisy says.
