The candidates provided the following observations about 4-H and the value of this program to them. QUEEN CANDIDATES JUDY BORHART: Age 17, daughter of Harold and Pearl BorhartJHIuntley. "For me, 4-H is an opportunity to par ticipate and become involved. Throughout my nine years of club work in the Huntley Harvesters, I've participated in many club and county activities. "My projects have included dairy, poultry, cooking, sewing, and photography. As a result of working with my 4-H projects, I've been able to decide my future goals." VICKY SCHOENBECK: Age 18, daughter of Robert Schoenbeck, Richmond. "In the last 10 years, I've had many rewarding experiences and had the chance to make new friends through 4-H. I am a member of the Hebron Helping Hands and the 4-H'ers 4-H Club. "Some of my projects include sheep, beef, foods, sewing, home furnishings, com munications, and indoor gardening. I have participated in several programs such as state conference, public speaking, 'Share- the-Fun,' dress revue, livestock judging team and other county activities. "Through 4-H I found that by working together everyone benefits. Everyone can express themselves through the variety of activities offered. 4-H has taught me many worthwhile things such as responsibility, citizenship and leadership which I will carry throughout my life." ANN PERRY: Age 16, daughter of James and Margaret Perry, Harvard. "I've been in 4-H for seven years and it's made a big difference in my life. To me, 4-H means the determination to take new pro jects and learn to perfect them as the years goon. "Leadership is also a big part of 4-H. You start out with respect for the club's junior leaders, then you become one. Finally, there's the sense of pride in your work and yourself that shows throughout life." SANDY SLATER: Age 17, daughter of Tom and Ruth Slater, Harvard. "The past nine years in the Cold Spring Prairie 4-H Gub have been the best years of my life. Through 4-H, I have learned to be myself and to be very proud of it. I have also learned to work hard at whatever I do, because hard work never fails. "Winning isn't everything, but the pride that comes from knowing that I've done my best is! Through 4-H, I have done many things and have met many interesting peo ple. My hope is that the rest of my life is as enjoyable as the past nine years." BETSY PAYNE: Age 16, daughter of Dave and Marie Payne, Woodstock. "I belong to the Hartland Homemakers 4- H Gub and this is my ninth year in 4-H. 4-H has been a major part of my life since I was 8 years old, and I know I'll always treasure my memories: "The years I spent at 4-H camp, the great times at state and county fairs, all the fun we've had at our 4-H meetings, the agony of ripping out my sewing again, and the challenge and fun that the public speaking and demonstration contests have offered. "4-H has broadened my horizons and pro vided many good times. It has helped me grow, playing an important role in the development of my character." LUANN - LAGERHAUSEN: Age 18, daughter of Walter and Nancy Lagerhausen, Woodstock. "This year I will complete my 10th year in 4-H. "My trip to Washington, D.C., in the Citizenship Washington Focus program taught me a little about our government which 1 find very interesting. I've carried many projects and enjoyed learning to do different things. "I will miss 4-H, my club the Community Builders, and my wonderful leader, Larry West. I will take all my 4-H knowledge and try to make the best better." KING CANDIDATES KEITH DORMANN: Age 1«, son ot Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Dormann, Harvard.
