" -- Edmund Burke By Joanne Springman Sentinel staff writer WOODSTOCK -- Everyone has heard the old phrase, "We knew him when," but someday McHenry County residents may be saying just that about young people who once graced the stage for the McHenry County Fair talent contest. William Tammeus, who has been general chairman of the event since its inception in 1965, recently did some detective work and discovered some former winners have pur sued careers leading to places as nearby as McHenry and as far away as Hollywood. David Babcock, who won the contest in partnership with Jerry Downey in 1972, is now in a New York comedy group called "Serious Bisness." The group recently ap peared on the television show, "Late Night with David Letterman." Tammeus said the duet of brothers T.J. and Dan Kuenster won the contest in 1968. TJ. now is musical director for country singer Glenn Campbell in Hollywood, and he will be pianist for Campbell in upcoming television specials. Formerly an animator for Walt Disney productions in California, Dan Kuenster since has joined the company of Don Bluth productions. Kuenster was one of the animators who worked on the new movie release, "The Secret of NIMH." Tammeus also spearheaded the creation of state competition for talent show win ners, which Andrea Kuenster won after win ning the county contest in 1976. A soloist and sister to the Kuenster brothers, Andrea is appearing nightly at the Los Angeles Hilton. Another contest winner ik w entertains at a night spot near her home. Rita Brickley Leucht, who won in 1970, resides in Pitt sburg, Texas, and sings three nights a week at a popular place known as the Orange Blossom. Pavkovic. who is now a math student at the University of Chicago, still plays piano and recently appeared with the Lake Forest Sym phony.
