Some fed the pressure of competing is too great, especially for young chiMen. or that too much emphasis is put on winning instead of learning that sometimes you lose even when you do your best. Maybe these are legitimate points, bat I certainly feel there are rewar- ding aspects that comes out of the years of practice and games, also bkxfing friendships that years from eight up until high School age that began when two young boys heard an umpire call strike for the first time. At age 14 those same boys, now playing on opposing teams for the first time in their baseball careers, heard the umpire call "strike three, you're out" on each of them and after the game could sit and enf together feeling bad for tCKttT&s And each other. When being congratulated on a good game, the boy oh the winning team was heard to say. "Yes. but too bad someone has to lose " It's always hard to lose, but sometimes it's just as hard to win when your friend is on the other team This kind of friendship is sometimes rare, but one to treasure for a lifetime SPECIAL DAYS A belated happy birthday to Mike Gunty of wonder Woods, who celebrated his special day July 29 Happy birthday to Jeff Spencer, one of our super Ski Club members, who will be celebrating his special day Aug. 4.
