The vic tories give the Tap a 14-2 won-Ioss record this year and gives them 44 victories in 48 tries since 1900! Vinnie Freund went 5-for-7 in the doubleheader to pace the Fox Hole. A total of 32 teams from the Chicagoland area are entered. Teams to watch include the Jokers fr>m Deerfield who swept the Nail tourney two years ago and Waukegan's Hillery who won the 1982 Hiller & Hamm tournament with power hitting. Both the Chicago Yorkers (they took the consolation title in 1961) and the Mt Prospect Vita-Men (they took consolation second place) are back. Pat Wirtz McHenry Pigtail All Star Teams Split In Tournament Action The travelling All Star teams from the McHenry junior and the senior pigtail leagues each recorded splits in recent action from Woodstock's Sullivan field In the junior circuit, McHenry bombed Round Lake on Saturday 12-0 as Timberlee Steward hurled a near perfect game The pitcher from Wally's Bike Haven allowed only one hit with two walks while striking out 11 Round l^ke batters Her teammates, meanwhile, pounded out 18 hits in the contest and exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh to lock up the win Kim Snyder led the offensive attack going 3 for 3, while Brenda Bromley went 3 for-4 and Tammy Klassen, Carlee Casperson, and Steward each had two hits On Sunday, however. Round I^ake battled back to win 6-5 although McHenry continued its strong hitting with a 15 to 10 advantage in that department Stacy Johnson <3-for-3), and Kim Amore (l-for-3) shared the pitching duties in a close game, but Carlee Casperson and Carrie Pottgetler were the hitting stars as each collected a pair of RBI's in the second inning. Members of the team are by McHenry league team: Freund's performance givca him the Eastern Division batting title going 25-for-41 for an average of .610 (unless Pete Blackburn should go 4-for-4 in his last game). The Fox Hole needed just one victory or one West End Pub loss to give them the pennant. The first game did not go as smoothly as the Tap might have wanted but it did not matter at West End Pub was having their own problems with Huemann's. Joe Dehn and Mike Peterson put Fox Hole ahead in the first with RBI singles. However Craig Rodgers hit the first of his jthree hits and Neal Nessett sacrificed to tie the score in the second. Gary Gilpin's triple scored Bill Meyers after two outs in the third to put the Tap up 3-2. An inning later Jewel tied the score when Steve Sanders tripled and scored on Ken Hall's sacrifice. The Fox Hole put the winning runs across in the fifth with a thiee-run rally. Jeff Meyers led off with his second hit of the contest and scored on Rich Meyers' triple. Joe Dehn's second hit knocked in Rich while Mike Peterson sent Dehn in three batters later. Dehn led all Fox Hole hitters in the 6-3 triumph over Jewel Park with three hits and a pair of RBI's. Bill Meyers. Gary Gilpin and Vinnie Freund added two hits each. Except for Wayne Roewer's two run second inning homer (3-for-3 in the contest) the Pub offense was non-existent. Roewer in fact had half of Kiss It's hits while Kevin Horner was the only Pub batter to reach second base after the home run. Huemann's on the other hand had four players with two hits each • Tom Blenner, Tony Huemann, Tom Wensch and Bud Smith, plus their defense turned a lineout and a groundball into doubleplays in the first and seventh innings. The victory by the newly crowned eastern division champions was their eighth straight and improved their overall record to 12-2 Second place J & L Oil also won to improve its record to9-5. and Decker Construction won to lock up the third East playoff spot by leveling its record at 7-7. Rick Wakitsch was mainly responsible for the Sport Stop's lop sided victory. Brian Miller struck the game- winning blow, a leadoff inside-the- park homer, his first of the season Jim Pinkstaff added a pair of RBI's in the seventh as his fly ball scored both Kerry Decker and Mark Rogers on the same play. Decker jumped out to a 10-2 lead after three and one half innings as Kerry Decker tripled in two runs in each of the first and third innings. Jim Grabowski added a home run in the five-run third as Decker looked like it would runaway with the win. But Phylly's came up with a five- run fourth, then added two runs in each of the next two innings to draw even.
