In Flight II it was Carolyn Dalton over Mabel Smith and in Flight IV it was Fran Herrmann over Micki Becker. The match between Carol Barnicle and Betty Rode in Flight III is yet to be played. It was another of those hot and humid, but beautiful, days Tuesday as the handful of remaining contestants concluded the final Match event scheduled for the season. Those no longer in the running played for low net and tow putts. As indicated above, Virginia Turner had low net of 68 in Class A while in the same class Espar Oja continued to exert great control ' with the putter to have low putts of 29. In Class B a tow net tie of 76 was . shared by Margie Blomquist and 'Betty Smith while another steady putter, Mabel Smith, had low putts of 9*. la Qaaa C s nice oat 73 .cave Maddie Holmes tow net while Gladys Warfield had low putts of 90. Low net over the field was a 88 shot by Linda n Puccto in class D who also had low ' • putts of 90 in that class. A smaller list of birdies than usual went up on the board this wek. They " were snot by Virginia Turner on No. ' 15, Liz Nolan on No. 15 and Judy - Smithson on Nos. 11 and 14. A number of chip-ins were recorded however. Betty Phalen chipped in on No. 3 as did Espar Oja on No. 10, Freida Miller on No. 7, Judy Smithson on No. 11, Gladys Warfield on Nos. 9 and 15 and Linda Puccio on Nos. 3, 8 and 10. That's a sizeable number of chip-ins. Except for Carolyn Harger's hitting trans on every hole on the course nothing untoward seemed to be happening to or by the gals on the first Tuesday in the month of August. Maybe that's a good sign as they gear up for Club and Class Championship which will begin next week. A short rundown on the Northern Illinois Women's Golf association which held its annual two-day tour nament at-Cog Hill last Thursday and Friday showed that a number of McHenry ladies participated and brought home prizes. Nell Fidler tied for low putts over the field, Floss O'Conneli took first in her flight, Espar Oja had closest to the pin on No. 4, and Letty Busscher and Virginia Turner won places in their flights. All irtall they played well and had a good time which always seems to make for Happy Golfing! Liz Chapel Hill Mar Ray still leads the teams in match play in the Tuesday Ladies league with 65 points. The scores for individual low net played July 27 showed Corky Weber winning in Class A with 32, Lu Stine in Class B with 31 and in Class C Mary Samkus with 31 We missed reporting a birdie last week when Pat Feiner birdied No. 10. Sorry about that Pat. no little bird told us Both Shirley Dawson and Lou LaBay chipped in and birdied No. 13 this week, in addition Lou had four one putts for a total of 12 in all. The Brewers were led by the fine pitching of Marc Weakman and a well-balanced hitting attack, and the Cubs were pitched into the finals by Jeff Cable's three-hit, 14-strikeout performance in his five innings of work Ron Neece had a triple and a double to account for all of the Astro runs batted in. The final was a match makers dream as the American league champ Brewers (11-1) were pitted against the National champ Cubs (11-1) for the title The game was a pitchers duel through three innings with the Brewers' Mark Sonnichsen and the Cubs' Bryan Nystrom both pitching fine shutout ball. The Cubs had a golden scoring opportunity in the first inning with the bases loaded and only one out, but Sonnichsen struck out the next two batters to end the inning , The Brewers threatened in the fourth but a fine defensive play by Peter Low at second baae sot the third < out as a runner was headed home.
