Bay View road, Pistakee Bay. v At 7 p.m. that same day, they will be guests of honor at a dinner party for friends and family, hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George ( Deirdre) Schied, Twin Lakes, Wis., in their home. Fred Mahoney and the former Elayne Allen were united in marriage^. Sept. 10. 1942, at Our Lady of Mary church, Chicago. They have made their home in Johnsburg the past 12 years and were formerly ot Chicago and California. The couple are parents of 12 children: Mrs. J. < Alana) Chacon. Mr. and Mrs. Lance Mahoney, Mr. and Mrs John Mahoney, Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Mahoney, and Ms. Mary Mahoney, all of Fresno, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. T. (Elise) Parker of William's Bay, Wis.; Patrick Mahoney of Denver, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. G. (Deidre) Schied of Twin Lak&s, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Blaise Mahoney of Bonners Lake, Wis.; Peter Mahoney of Pensacola, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. D. (Margaret) Mackenzie of McHenry; and one deceased son Paul. They were also blessed with 29 grandchildren. B f* McHenry American Legion Auxiliary The membership drive of McHenry Unit 491, American Legion Auxiliary, is in full swing with Pearl Cooper as/- Membership chairman and Mrs ' Vickey Bottari as co-chairman. An invitation to join is extended to mothers, sisters, daughters and granddaughters of living veterans who are members of the American Legion or to the same relatives of men or women who were killed or died while serving in World War I and II, the Korean War or during the Viet­ nam Conflict, or after Honorable Discharge from such service. Any women veterans who have had ser­ vice during these designated periods of time are also eligible for mem­ bership. Legionnaire eligibility is from the following dates: Apr. 6, 1917 to Nov. 11,1918 (World War I); Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31,1946 (World War II); June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955 (Korean Con­ flict); Dec. 22, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam era). 1 The membership program of the department „( state organization), under the direction of Mrs. Helen Malanoski. has for its theme and symbols. Mrs. Leona Best is the Department President and Chief Engineer. Car Maintenance Is Meeting Topic THEOS (They Help Each Other Spiritually) will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12,-in the parking lot of the First Congregational church, 461 Pierson street. Crystal Lake. Peter Cook, instructor in the automotive division at McHenry County college, will demonstrate how to jack up a car and change a tire, along with other helpful pointers on maintaining a car and saving money. Those attending are urged to bring their car manual. Coffee and dessert will be seryed in the lounge follo^ng this program. The THEOS group is geared to the problems of newly widowed, and solicits the help of the adjusted widowed also. The Reverend Rick Carlson is the chaplain. The next activity is planned for Saturday. In addition, two other programs of special interest have been announced by the Program chairman, Diane Koenig. The first wUl be on Nov. 9, for a tour of a piano shop, including a discussion on the fine points of rebuilding pianos and what to look for when purchasing a piano. * \1504. The second special program will be a workshop for the teachers with Reid Alexander, who was the judge for the <guild festival held last May. This will be held Mar. 12, at the United Methodist church from 10 a.m. to noon. The topics are "Teaching Technique Through Improvisation and Sight fading" and ^'Teaching Musical Styles Through Proper Choice of Repertoire". GERALD WILSON DELAYED HONEYMOON - Newly ifwrried Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Lee Wilson are planning to embark on a wedding trip to the romantic Bahama islands in December. The bride is the former Robin Lynn Mary Nolan, daughter of Robert and Catherine Nolan, 2315 Club road, McHenry. Gerald and Margaret Wilson of River road. McHenry are the parents of the bridegroom. The couple exchanged promises of marriage Aug. 7, during a I p.m. ceremony performed by Father Leo Bartel in St. John the Baptist Catholic church, Johnsburg. A garden reception was held at the home of the bride's parents for ISO friends and relatives. The new Mrs. Wilson graduated from McHenry Community high school; attended McHenry County college for two years; and is presently a pre- veterinary student at Northern Illinois university. Her husband graduated from the same high school; served with the U.S. Marine corps for three years; and is currently employed as a construction worker for Prate Roofing Contractors. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD On Sept./ 15, members and prospective members of the Whispering Oaks Woman's club will enjoy a special tenth anniversary luncheon provided by the board and will participate in the program following the luncheon. The accomplishments of this club over the past 10 years have been numerous. All Whispering Oakers have benefitted from the blood pressure program, physical fitness classes and Lenten prayer breakfasts conducted by club members. As a service group, over the years sizable contributions have been made to the McHenry Area Rescue Squad, Beautification of McHenry program, ..-**<• La Leche League Slates Meeting The McHenry-Fox Lake La Leche league will hold its meeting Wed­ nesday, Sept. 8, at 7:30 p.m. and the topic will be the "Advantages of Breastfeeding". La Leche league is a self-help group dedicated to promoting good mothering through breastfeeding and mother to mother sharing. It aims to •provide moral support by mother to mother contact and help when needed. Many pregnant women have found ihis meeting most helpful in making an informed decision about breast­ feeding. Nursing babies are always welcome. The group has a lending library with books on childbirth, nutrition and breastfeeding. For further information on the Head Start, scholarships to McHenry young women, and the McHenry County Easter Seal Poster Child. Also, members have participated in delivering Meals on Wheels. This club also continues to support Federation philanthropies, a few of which are Brain research, Cancer research, Junvenile Diabetes, with special emphasis on Crime Preven­ tion, which is so important to every citizen. The club has received numerous district and state awards for participation in these programs.
