Included among the many activities, which have become an annual event, will be spinning, weaving, natural dyeing, knife and axe sharpening on a grind stone, corn shelling, log splitting, braided rug making, and demonstrations of early methods of washing clothes outside by the 1847 log cabin. The fun and activities won't be limited to one area of the museum. As visitors enter the music room they'll be entertained /by old time fiddle music and wh^n they venture into Echert hall/the aroma of freshly baked corn wead and ginger bread and homemade apple pie will be the greeting-plenty of free samples to tempt the hungry. Upstairs in the costume room one might even spy one of Greenwood "pioneers" busily knitting and crocheting much like Mary Dufield must have done back in 1838 - As no early get-together would have been complete without some activities for the youngsters, visitors will have the opportunity to see an old fashioned spell down and watch how early school lessons were taught, thanks to the Greenwood school students. To complete the festivities, information will be presented on the ar- chaeologic^lyftfidings in McHenry county. Ac<fcrdingx to information published back in 1940 by the Greenwood Methodist church com memorating their early pioneering days, Indian Mounds were found near Greenwood and several Indian remains and arttfaete- wert un- covered. The Historical society and the residents of Greenwood extend a welcome invitation to join in the festivities Sunday from 1:30 to. 4:30 p.m. Prairie Walk Is Slated Sept. 26 The fourth in a series of walks through Veteran Acres prairie will be held Sunday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. The group will assemble at the Nature center, 230 North Main street in Crystal Lake. The prairie, always full of surprises, is nonetheless interesting for its seed pods as for the flowers still blooming. Fall flowers which close out the season include numerous asters and goldenrods. Interspersed with these will be Indian grass, big blue stem, and the colorful little blue£tem. Johnsburg School district's Computer Curriculum committee gets "hands-on" experience with computer systems were recently purchased for the school system. district's new micro-computers. Twenty-one micro- The computer age has arrived at Johnsburg schools. The Computer Curriculum committee of District 12 recently met in Johnsburg high school's new micro-computer lab to set goals for the year and to become more familiar with the district's newly purchased micro-computers. Johnsburg schools recently pur chased 21 Apple II micro-computer systems at the cost of approximately $42,000. Based on a mimimum life span of 10 years, this amounts to a per pupil expenditure of two dollars per student per year. Five micro-computers were already in use in the district prior to this most recent purchase. The committee is now proceeding with computer software purchases to provide computer assisted in struction opportunities for students of all grade levels. Because of Johnsburg's membership in Micro- Ideas, a consortium of 86 suburban school districts, much of this software will be purchased at a fraction of its original cost. Further committee goals for the year include additional inservice* training with micro-computers for district staff and the development of an articulated program for computer literacy for all district students. Computer Curriculum committee chairman, Kim Perkins, summed up the feelings of district staff. "We have a very excited group of people here. It's a pleasant change of events to be adding to the curriculum again. We have just begun to realize the full potential this technology holds for our students and their futures."
