GUY DISNEY STAFF PHOTO-W AYNE GAYLORD Mr. and Mrs. Guy Disney, 4408 Sussex drive, McHenry, will observe their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary Wednesday, Sept. 29. The former Gertrude Broscheid and Guy Disney were married in Chicago Sept. 29, 1927, on the same day as her birthday. Mr. Disney retired from the Chicago Post Office 17 years ago, where he had been employed as a supervisor. • The couple moved to McHenry 15 years ago, and in an attempt to get acquainted with local people, Mrs. Disney entered a subscription contej£ sponsored by the McHenry Plaindealer. She came in fifth place and her efforts resulted in fnany friendships which have lasted >and grown stronger over the years. \ Her 10 years as correspondent lor Whispering Oaks broadened rneir scope of friends, for which ihey are very graieful. The Disneys are parents of one son. Grant Disney of Chicago; a daughter. Mrs. Robert (Carol) Pirtle <«f Watertown, Wis.; three grandchildren. Michelle, age 20, 22- year-old Mark, who just completed four years in the Marines, and Steve, age 16, at home. They also have a great-granddaughter Teah, age two. * The celebrants belong to the Whispering Oaks association; Assembly of God church, Crystal Lake and Assembly of God church, McHenry. BAPTIZED AT NATIVITY -- Arthur Elkins, 5415 E. Lake Shore drive, Wonder Lake, was baptized by Pastor Roger Olson, in. Nativity Lutheran church. Wonder Lake, on Sunday, Sept. 12. The octogenarian has the distinction of being the oldest recipient of this sacrament in the church's history. Following the service, 20 members of the congregation hosted a celebration in honor of the happy occasion at a breakfast in the Courthouse Inn, Woodstock. Mr. Elkins moved to Wonder Lake 27 years ago from Chicago, where he had owned and operated a TV store before his retirement. He has a twin sister, Viola Blom of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Bernice George of Norlhbrook, III. and Celeste Koelling of Burlingame, Calif; and a step-daughter, Dixie Lee Orman of Memphis, Tfenn. A trip by automobile through the picturesque New England states was in the honeymoon plans of newly married Mr. and Mrs. Howaxxl Wagner. The couple was united in holy matrimony during a 3 p.m. ceremony officiated by Father Stringini on Sept. 18. The altar of St. Patrick Catholic church, McHenry was flanked on either side by a five-tier candlelabrum, graced with fresh greens and lavender bows. In the rear of the altar, at the center, stood a high pedestal bearing a large urn of lavender and white flowers. Special music for the occasion, including "A Time For Us", "Evergreen", "Sunrise, Sunset", "The Wedding Song", "Ave Maria" and "Sometimes", was performed by vocalist Cindy Jones, accompanied on the organ by Jeanne Ludwig. Altar boys were cousins of the bride. Ron, Randy and Danny Schaefer and Andy Hughes. Readings were given by the bride's uncles, Ken and Larry Schaefer. The bride's godparents, Tom McMahon and Dorothy Hughes, and the groom's godparents, Dorothy and Urban Decker, brought forth the gifts at, the offertory. Church programs were distributed by cousins of the bride. Karen and Amy Schaefer. Following the nuptiais, the couple lit a symbolic 'unity' candle and then they presented a rose to each of their mothers. The bride is fhe former Theresa M. Schaefer, daughter of Tony and Kathy Schaefer, 4311 W. Ponca street, McHenry. Howard and Darlene Wagner, Sr., 1406 N. Park street, McHenry, are the parents of the bridegroom. -- 7--^---- The bride wore a Victorian style ivory knit chiffon gown, fashioned with a high neck, sheer yolk and full bishop sleeves. The bodice was enhanced with Brussels lace and the full circular skirt was edged with Brussels lace. The waist was banded with a satin ribbon. For the total effect, a waltz length veil flowed from her hat and she carried a cascade of roses, carnations and baby's breath, with eggshell streamers. Sue Schaefer of McHenry attended her sister as maid of honor. Bridemaids were friends of the bride, Julie Simpson of Barrington, 111., Linda McKay of Crystal Lake, 111., Mary Pick of Milwaukee, Wis. and Sara Losselyong of Appleton, Wis. Attendants were attired in lilac gowns with iris flowers, styled with a ' Vuson bodice, round neck, short ^ ceves and a fabric belt tied at the Jst. They carried natural straw baskets of lavender silk flowers, and a spray of silk flowers adorned their hair. Handling the duties of best man was the groom's brother, Ray Wagner of Wonder Lake. Groomsmen were friends of the groom, Mark Davis of Wonder Lake, Pete Kasperski of Arizona, Hugh McGowen and Jay Adams, both of McHenry. The ring bearer was the bride's five- year-old brother, Stephen Schaefer. A friend, Fred Ludwig of McHenry and the bride's cousin, Garret McMahon of Waukesha, Wis., served as ushers. They were all in grey tuxedos. The mother of the bride chose a floor length gown of Aubergine chiffon and polyester lustre-glo. The bodice featured a round neck and cap sleeves of chiffon. The skirt was highlighted with a diagonal drape in front and a self fabric tie, accented with a silk flower at the waist. A lavender chiffon gown, lined with taffeta, and designed with a high banded, neckline, cap sleeves and a long straight skirt, flowing from an empire waist, banded by a self fabric cummerbund and trimmed with a peplum, was the choice of the groom's mother. A reeption for 250 friends and relatives was held at the Johnsburg Community club. In keeping with the sentiment of the occasion, the best man proposed a beautiful toast on 'love' and the ring bearer touched everyone's heart as he sang the grace. Special guests were the bride's' grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray McMahon and Mr. and Mrs. Miehael Schaefer. The guest book was circulated by the bride's cousins, Kelly and Evy Schaefer, and a beautifully decorated wedding cake was baked by the groom's godmother. <*" The new Mrs. Wagner is a nurse at McHenry hospital and her husband is a carpenter. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they will make their home in McHenry. A rehearsal dinner for 32 guests was hosted by the groom at the Longhorn restaurant. The bride was honored at four bridal showers; one given by her aunts, another by the aunts of the groom, the third by her co-workers, and the last by her attendants. Attending the bride as her matron of honor was her sister, Nancy Button of Waupaca. Wis. She was attired in a brown formal. A friend of the bride, Shirley Tonyan of Lily Lake, was the bridesmaid. She wore a purple and lavender dress. The best man was the groom's brother-in-law, Joseph Lukas of Beverly Shores, Ind. He wore a light rust color suit. A beige, two-piece, skirted suit was the choice of the gram's mother.^ Immediately following the ceremony. 35 guests enjoyed coffee, punch, cake and ice cream, in the lower level hall of the church. The bride graduated from McHenry Community high school, West campus, in 1978 and the groom attended the same school. The newlyweds are both employed at Follett Library Book Co., Crystal Lake. Lamaze Group Slates Workshop MCACE (McHenry County Area Childbirth Educators) a. non-profit organization of certified Lamaze instructors, will present the film "Nan's Class" Monday evening, Sept. 27. The free showing will be held at 9 p.m. in the cafeteria of Memorial Hospital in Woodstock. This film shows five couples and a single parent as they receive in struction in the Lamaze method of prepared childbirth and various aspects of their labor and deliveries. The public is invited to attend and an instructor will be present to answer any questions. The next early pregnancy workshop is scheduled for Nov. 6. This three- hour workshop is geared to meet the needs of the jiewly pregnant woman and her spouse. It covers aspects of pregnancy, such as nutrition, ptosical and emotional changes, physical exercises, sexuality and '<$>m- munications. Chamber Holds Dinner-Meeting With Dancing< The McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce cordially invites all Chamber members and guests to its annual meeting and dinner dance, Oct. 2. At 7 p.m. a prime rib dinner has been scheduled, followed by an 8 p.m. business meeting, where the 1983 officers will be introduced and award and recognition presentations made. PATRICK'S -- St. Patrick's Catholic church, McHenry was the setting for the July 31 exchange of wedding vows between the former Sherri Drake and Jack Moos. The bride is the daughter of Danny and Marilyn Drake of McHenry. James and Dorothy Moos of Dania, Fla. are the parents of the groom. Father Lutz officiated at the 4 p.m. nuptials. Later, a reception was held for approximately 150 friends and relatives at Al-A-Kayas in Island Lake. The couple took up residence in McHenry following a honeymoon {p Florida and the Bahamas. The new Mrs. Moos graduated from McHenry Community high school, West campus and is a medical records clerk at McHenry hospital. Her husband, the proprietor and manager of Happy Jack's Ice Cream and Submarine shop in McHenry, graduated from Broward South high school, Dania, Fla.
