PAGE 17 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15,1982 Boy Scouts Aid Recycling Program Co-sponsoring the McHenry County Defenders recycling drive, Saturday, Oct. 16, (9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the McHenry Market Place parking lot) will be the Boy Scout Troop 131. Ac cording to Lester Bacon, Methodist church coordinator for the Boy Scouts, the Troop's share of the proceeds from the drive will be used to help support their annual camping program. In particular, these boys, age 10-16, want to earn enough money to buy two new tents this year. Since recycling conserves our steadily declining supply of natural resources, according to a McHenry County Defenders spokesman, saving 17 trees for every ton of waste paper, this effort is a double opportunity for citizens to participate in a worthwhile activity. Their efforts will not only help preserve our forests for future generations but will help these community organizations to earn money for their stated goals. •> Items which can be brought to the drive include newspapers with no cardborad, magazines or junk mail included, glass containers washed and all plastic or metal removed, steel ("tin") cans rinsed and flattened, used motor oil in plastic or metal containers and aluminum scrap of all kinds. The public is also encouraged to take advantage of an immediate buy- back plan now in effect for all- aluminum cans brought to the drive. For further information about recycling or how your club can par ticipate in a future drive, contact the McHenry County Defenders representative at 385-8512. this is QEOMf BURNS, o«ar M-yaar old STAR, and on* of Hollywood s busi- aal, amokai up lo 20 clgara a day, drink* •vary day, dances until 4 a.m. and dales pretty young women Ha aaya, "I'm not going to die That's boring " "Forget JOGGING", > u My» O Dr.J.C. I' SENIOR CITIZEN'S CORNER HELPFUL I0CAS FOR SUCCESSFUL RETREMENT I Family V-) Th« death of a family is al- • ways depressing. Families' die, sometimes, in tragic ac cidents. But, families also - die, often slowly but sure- . ly and with finality, through processes of friction and , misunderstanding. Sometimes age brings sick ness and infirmity. In close ' family situations, the pres- ; sures of time and change can make it increasingly diffi cult for everyone to adjust with continued tolerance. Elderly parents, almost un knowingly, may become , more demanding of their vjj*dult children, who are them- ' selves busy with problems of vfttmily managemfcht and of- 'ten heavily concerned with v the problems and needs of ^their children. Little incidents that once seemed unimportant can be magnified and compiled to form a list of grievances and, as the list grows, the family members tend to become more alienated. Age is often less forgiving than youth. With advancing age, the ability to forget and forgive--and to compromise --may give way to an increas ing attitude of self-interest. When family members stop talking, stop communi cating and are unable to sit down and talk about prob lems and solutions, the pro cess of erosion is underway. There is no physical death when the family begins to die. There is only a constant draw ing Wfntgnd a pattern ofin- creased loneliness and isola tion. The withering of family life is tragic, is sad. If there is no rebirth of the family unit, the real loss of a family mem ber is pethaps the greatest of all tragedies. Si (JohiY ̂Fhg-School 2304 W.
