Beginning as a student of Jacki Sorensen's Aerobic Dan cing 3 years ago, Betsy soon became an instructor and held classes in local school gyms whenever possible. In Sept. of 1981 "Chance to Dance Place" at 804 Mill Street opened its doors. Having served .over 1,000 area residents, the 12 week session currently underway has nearly 300 students. Betsy feels that the main reason for her success is the feeling of exhilaration people experience when leaving ciass after a good workout. Betsy, a teacher at Hilltop school for the past 8 years, graduated from Bradley University with a degree in elementary education and later received a master's degree from Northern Illinois University as a reading specialist. Arlene, together with co-owner and par tner Jim Freund, took over the business 15 years ago. In September, 1980, Mary received a promotion to the larger volume store in McHenry, assuming the responsibilities of supervision of employees, merchandising, pur chasing and various administrative duties. Her rpalm of responsibility includes scheduling, payroll, training new housekeepers & personally servicing certain accounts. Darlene feels her major contribution to the company is in' the residential aspect which has grown from 1 girl & 1 account wh$n Darlene took over to the current number of 7 girls and 25 accounts. The commercial phase of the business is worked by Darlene's husband, Ed & son, Warren. She returned to the business world as a part-time clerk at Osco seven years ago. Within six months she was transferred to the cosmetics department and is currently the Head Cosmetician. Elm (Rte. 120), McHenry MARGE OLSZEWSKI Marge, owner of Mar Ray Costume Shops, started her costume business in McHenry, in 1965 with a few rental items. This has developed into a fascinating career with thousands of costumes and an additional store in Palatine which was opened 7 years ago. Marge started studying dance at the age of 5 and began teaching at 15. To further her dance education, she studied tap and jazz with the famous Tommy Sutton in Chicago. The dance studio originated in 1964 with a recreation program of dance for children. Marge is now retired from teaching, but remains active in the Costume Shop. The dance studio is now owned by her daughter Carol and the gymnastic studio is under the direction of her daughter-in-law, Jill.
