Not included in the celebration, to the disappointment of the J birthday girl, was a new sister, Casey Lyn, who was born Oct. 21 at Lake Forest hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Konecny of Lake Zurich. A delicious brunch was enjoyed by the party-goers and the 'Smurf decorated cake, ice cream, and gingerbread boys disappeared rapidly by the very active young numbers who attended. There was fun for everyone as they helped Kelly Lee try to blow out candles that refused to be ex­ tinguished. - The celebrant, who had wished for the new sister to arrive on her bir­ thday, was happy, instead, with a variety of lovely gifts. Meeting Features Hypnosis Program Bertha Stange, program chairman of the McHenry Woman's club, has announced that the prbgram for the Nov. 11 meeting of the group will be given by Ted Graves, Director of Hypnosis Institute. The presentation will be made at 2 p.m., in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church. Graves has a private practice in hynosis and counseling, specializing in helping people to stop smoking, lose weight and overcome sleeping problems. He will discuss various methods of reaching these goals. Non members who are interested may attend the program for a small fee. For information, one may call Mrs. Elmer W. (Bertha) Stange of McHenry. 6( Kitchen Band MR. AND MRS. STEPHAN KANTER CANADIAN HONEYMOON - Following a Canadian honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Stephan Kanter will reside in Sheboygan Wis. Laura Sue Heinrich of Sheboygan, daughter of Paul Heinrich of Milwaukee, Wis. and Kathryn Heinrich of Plymouth, Wis., was married to Stephan John Kanter of Sheboygan, son of Florence and Cecil Kanter of McHenry, in the Lakeland college chapel, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m. by the Rev. David Lauer. The bride to a 1078 graduate of if_ • Oostburg high school, Oostburg, Wis., and a 1982 graduate of Lakeland college, JYleetS \JnCe Again Sheboygan, with a degree in English Literature. She has returned to obtain a teaching certification in secondary education. Stephan graduated from McHenry high school in 1074 and from Lakeland college with a degree in writing and art in 1981. He is employed as a technical writer for Kohler Co., Kohler, Wis. • ^ The "Kitchen Band" held its annual fall reunion luncheon recently at a well-known steak house in Crystal Lake. The group enjoyed a delicious luncheon, and spent the afternoon visiting and reminiscing about "the good old days" when the band was giving programs for nursing homes, old people's homes, hospitals, schools and clubs. . > By getting together twice a year for a picnic in July and a luncheon in October - the group keeps in contact with each other and renews friend­ ships. A picnic is planned for July, 1983 and "Kitchen Band" members will be notified of the location and date. MR. AND MRS. JEFFREY HUNT RESIDE IN WONDER LAKE - Newly married Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Brian Hunt are making their home at 7714 Pheasant road, Wonder Lake, following a honeymoon which included a tour of the east coast enroute to Florida. The bride is the former Deborah Ann Wenk, daughter of Ronald J. and Ann M.Wenk of Wonder Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hunt, also of Wonder Lake, are the groom's parents. The Rev. Tranel officiated at the 2 p.m. ceremony on Sept. li„ at Christ the King Catholic church, Wonder Lake. Following the nuptials, a reception was held at Changes Lounge for 300 guests. The new Mrs. Hunt graduated from McHenry Community high school in 1978 and has been a secretary for Mike Andry Insurance the past four and a half years. Her husband graduated from Marian Central Catholic high school and to employed in sales at Farm & Fleet. P.L.A.V. Liberty Post No. 188 The regular meeting of Chapter No. 188 of the Polish Legion of American Veterans was held Oct. 24, at 1 p.m., at the post home on Park street, with 21 members in attendance. Following the regular chairmen's reports, president Evelyn Ficek gave a report on her activities for the month of October. Vice-president Irene May announced that the chapter will sponsor a bake sale on Nov. 20, in the lobbies of a local bank, from 9 a.m. to nooa Members were asked to bring their baked goods to the post home Nov. 19, so they can be priced. Three new members enrolled are Celia Brzozowski, Sophia La Course and Gail Weir. A delicious roast chicken dinner, prepared by Kitchen chairman Jean Gagnon, was served following the meeting. Publicity Chairman Rose Lingl Fashion Show-Luncheon The Elgin Academy annual fashion show luncheon presented by the parent auxiliary will be held at the St. Charles Country club Nov. 18, com­ mencing with cocktails at 11:30 followed by luncheon served at 12:30. Both reservations and ticket in­ formation may be obtained by calling 695-0300. LUNCHEON AND PLAY Members of St. Clara Court No. 659, National Catholic Society of Foresters will attend a luncheon and play at the Apple Tree restaurant Thursday, Nov. 11. The group will meet at the Church of St. Mary of the Assumption parking lot at 11:15 a.m. Those planning to attend are requested to call Mrs. Leonard Freund for reservations by Nov. 8. Zion Church Chicken Dinner-Bazaar Mary Ann McGee and Larry Booster are preparing for the chicken dinner, sponsored by the Friendship Guild of Zion Lutheran church. From 5 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10, the Friendship Guild of Zion Lutheran church will serve a chicken dinner in the social hall of the church at 4206 W. Elm street (Route 120) in McHenry. The menu consists of cole slaw, mashed potatoes, beans, corn, cranberry sauce, pan fried chicken and homemade bars. Tickets may be purchased from any Friendship Guild or Ladies Aid member, or by calling the church office. In conjunction with the dinner, the Ladies Aid will hold their bazaar at the church from 1 to 7 p.m. This event will feature fancy goods tables, with many beautiful and novel handmade items, plus handmade, tied, crib and bassinet quilts, as well as one full size tied quilt. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD There will also be a plant stall with various types and sizes of plants; a bakery stall with homemade breads, cakes, pies and cookies, a White Elephant stall with new, like new, or good used items; and the Country Store stall, offering homemade candies, preserves and vegetables. Coffee and cookies will be served throughout the day. Senior Walk-In Center • Interesting Discussions At T.H.E.O.S. October Meeting Meals are served Monday through Friday at the McHenry Walk-In center beginning at 11:45 a.m. Reservations must be made by 1:30 p.m. the day before at 385-8260. The menu for the week of Nov. 8 through Nov. 12 is as folows: Nov. 8: Beefaroni, peas, pear half in jello, bran muffin, chocolate pudding with whipped cream, milk. Nov. 9: Hot turkey sandwich with gravy, sweet potato, brussel sprouts, jellied cranberry slice on lettuce, pumpkin tart, milk. Nov. 10: Hot dog, baked beans, pickle slices, pineapple carrot jello salad, assorted breads, baked apple,, Nov. 11: VETERANS DAY-ALL SITES AND OFFICES CLOSED! Nov. 12: Chicken Marengo, tater tots, mashed yellow squash, 3 bean salad, breads, gingerbread with whipped cream, milk. The T.H.E.O.S. group met at the Circle R. restaurant for their October dinner and then went to the First United Methodist church for the evening. Social worker, Bobbie Fossum was guest speaker, talking on Volun­ teer ism, followed by a lively discussion on that topic. The "Hospice Program for McHenry County" was then discussed and created a great deal of interest, with the result the group will en­ deavor to try and find out if and how they might become involved or help in some way to get this program into operation in the McHenry county area. By the November meeting, for Reservations for the Annual Catered Christmas Dinner party on Monday, Dec. 20, at 5:30 p.m., in the Fellowship hall of the First United Methodist church can be made at the November meeting, or by contacting Mrs. Wm. J. (Lyda) Radisch of McHenry. Following the - catered dinner, the group will adjourn to the church parlor for a grab bag ex­ change and evening of fun and fellowship. T.H.E.O.S. (To Help Each Other Smile) is a warm, casual and friendly group for widows and widowers, non- denominational, with no age restrictions, and no dues, meeting the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. for dinner at a local restaurant, and then going to the church for an evening of fellowship and fun. The next get-together will be Monday, Nov. 15, at the Circle R restaurant, 2214 W. Route 120. Reservations may be made by calling Mrs. Radisch. Seniors Focus On Day Tours CHRISTMAS GIFT BAZAAR Santa and Mrs. Claus will be host and hostess to a Christmas Gift Bazaar at the Lambs in Libetffettle from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturfl^PKd Sunday, Nov. 13 and 14. More than 40 artists and craftsmen will be selling hand-crafted items, ranging from stained glass and ceramics to woodworking and quilted items at a variety of prices. Proceeds from the sale will directly benefit the Lambs, a private, not-for-profit program for mentally retarded adults. Tlie Lambs is located at the junction of the 1-94 Tollway and Rte. 176, two miles east of Libertyville. Parking and ad­ mission to the show is free. A day trip for members of the lenry Senior Citizens club is 1 for Nov. 20, to the Milwaukee Fair, with departure from the McHenry Market Place at 10 a.m. The theme for this year is Polish dances and traditions. On Dec. 16, there is a day trip scheduled to view the Tiffany treasures in Chicago, with departure at 8 a.m. from the McHenry Market Place. Membership of the club continues to grow with Daisy Jelenich, Marie McNeel, Aldona Cepulis, Earl Davis, Sophie LaCourse, Esther Finiall, Grace Hill, and Julie Malo joining recently, making the total 482. Greener Leo Shermach awarded attendance prizes to Florence Olson, Leone Lawrence, Norbert Mauch, Ruth Fradell, Sophie LaCourse and Borgie Kraemer. The Union 76 Chorus entertained members at the last meeting and the next meeting will feature the McHenry Choral group on Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., in the East campus cafeteria. Mrs. Illinois-America Pageant W.O.T.M. BAZAAR Saturday, Nov. 6, is the date the Women of the Moose will sponsor their annual Christmas Bazaar and Craft Sale. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Moose lodge, 2816 W. Route 120, McHenry. Items for sale will include handmade ar­ ticles, paintings, dolls, and a gift table. Everyone is invited to come and do some holiday shopping and perhaps partake of the lunch counter. The Mrs. Illinois pageant has an­ nounced that it is officially accepting applications to its state-wide preliminary competition, the first hurdle enroute to qualifying for the 1983 Mrs/America finals. The new Mrs. Illinois-America will be crowned Sunday evening, March 6, at the Hemmens Theatre of Performing Arts in Elgin, 111. In order to participate in the Mrs. Illinois-America competition, the only major national pageant that doesn't discriminate against married women, a candidate must be a U.S. citizen, a minimum of 18 years old, married for at least one year as of the entry date of her state pageant and a resident of Illinois for a minimum of six months. In addition to such beautiful prizes as a 14-carat diamond necklace, all expense paid trip to Las Vegas, cash award, and a complete wardrobe of fashions, the winner will also earn the right to represent Illinois at the seventh annual Mrs. America Pageant to be held from April 23 to April 29, at the Us Vegas Hilton.
