Model Railroad Club To Hold Open House Nov. 13-14 The Lake County Model Railroad club of 107 Main street (rear en trance), Wauconda, wiU celebrate its eleventh year with an open house Nov. 13 and 14. Train operations will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Admission is free. At past open houses, the train layout's operation has drawn crowds of model railroad enthusiasts from metropolitan areas as far away as Rockford, \ Madison, Milwaukee, Joliet, and St. Joseph, Michigan. Visitors \ are welcome to observe three to\five trains operating simultaneously on the layout. The trackage consists of 2,600 feet of nickel-silver rail spiked onto more than 50,000 individually hand-laid ties. Over five miles of electric wire is used in transmitting the electrical power to the track, signalling system, and switches. At the open house, the railroad's dispatcher will route the trains over the 350 feet of single trade mainline and the 950 feet of secondary trackage using a master control panel con sisting of 21 blocks. The mountainous landscape which the trains travel through is construcJtetMon--apr- proximately one ton of hydrocal plaster. The numberous buildings and bridges on the "HO" scale layout are a combination of scratchbuilt and kit structures made from wood, plastic and cardstock. Over 17,000 man-hours have gone into the construction of this model railroad. The 23 Lake County Model Railroad club members invite the whole family to spend a enjoyable Saturday and Sunday watching steam and diesel engines pulling passenger and freight trains on one of the oldest and largest "HO" scale railroads in the midwest.
