Owing to several of the members of the faculty of the Community high and the grade school, as well as several of the pupils absent with severe colds and flu, the schools were closed Tuesday evening for the remainder of the week. Supervisor Stephen H. Freund is confined to his bed at his home on Pearl street, recovering from injuries sustained when he fell backwards, about fifteen feet, from a scaffold while at work on the new home being erected by Mr. and Mrs. Gerhart near the home of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Frisby, south of this city. His back was badly injured when he landed on the frozen ground and he was severely bruised about the body. • The two-story cottage of C. N. Jacobson at Sunset View, located about one mile south of Johnsburg, on the west side of Fox river, with its entire contents, was destroyed by fire. The young man, a graduate of St. Patrick's school, at­ tends St. Mary's Minor seminary in Crystal Lake. In an effort to curb accidents, open road radar was introduced for the first time in McHenry county this week. State troopers set up the radar detection equipment near Brookdale bridge on Rt. 14 between Woodstock and Harvard. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of December 6, 1972). The city of McHenry will receive $4,560 as its share of a total distribution of $7,484,629.44 to Illinois counties and muncipalities as their share of state income tax collections for September. The allocation is made according to population. Health care for citizens in eastern McHenry county and western Lake county has taken a giant leap forward. LeRoy E. Olsen, president of the McHenry hospital board of directors, announced acceptance of a gift of 40 acres of farm land to the hospital from Mrs. Clara Stilling and the Stilling family. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD, School Leaders Attend Joint Annual Conference Five board members and ad­ ministrators from McHenry Elementary School District No. 15 have just returned from the 1982 joint annual conference of the Illinois Association of School Boards, Illinois Association of School Administrators, and Illinois Association of School Business Officials, where they took part in panel discussions and workshops and voted on key policy issues. "The experience gave us valuable insight into a number of issues facing our school board," said board secretary Joan Miller. "The con­ ference was also an opportunity to share information and solutions with board members and administrators from around the state, and to consult authorities in many areas of education." "Opportunities to meet and share ideas with our colleagues in public education are all too rare, but are increasingly important as the issues become more complex and the resources more limited," board member Eileen Zurblis said. "Individual school districts cannot afford to operate in a vacuum, rein­ venting the wheel to solve problems that other districts already have solved. In addition,, the con­ sequences of operating a school district without solid information about the legal and legislative actions that affect us-such as collective bargaining, state aid and many others-would be disastrous. In short, the joint annual conference was an invaluable resource, an efficient, comparatively inexpensive way of ensuring the best possible education for our children," Ms. Zurblis con­ tinued.
