Go for spontaneous photos instead of the posed look. Talking to your subjects can help them to relax better. N a t u r a l l i g h t produces the most pleasing results, but when it's not available, use flash units. W i t h t o d a y ' s cameras, one can have the ease of operation with both automatic and metered manual con trol. Choose a camera that turns out clear pictures for years of bright memories. There are wide-angle lenses for those group shots and 65mm or 100mm for individual portrait shots. If you want good photos, the right lens becomes important. Various accessories, such as motor drive or auto-winder, allow continuous shooting of continuous action photos, like opening gifts, without having to manually advance the film. Make sure you have plenty of film and fresh batteries on hand. Be prepared to capture this year's merry moments for tomorrow's memories. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Evergreen Forest Walk McHenry County Conservation district interpretive naturalist, John Shiel, will lead a walk through the evergreen forest at Marengo Ridge Conservation site at 1 p.m. Saturday, *Shi stotyfr hefc'the conifers came to grow in an area where hardwood trees normally dominate. Roughly 20 acres of land at Marengo Ridge is occupied by pines, spruces, firs, junipers and other needle-leaved trees. "As we make a temporary place in our homes for a Christmas tree, it's interesting to learn a little about the background of the new family member," claims the interpretive naturalist. "Marengo Ridge - many know part of it better as Kunde woods - is unusual for our area because it offers us an evergreen school in an oak-history and prairie county." On the sixty-minute walk, Shiel will teach some of the visual charac teristics of the evergreen treeson the sitfc;1m!rmll explain why they did not grow in McHenry county until planted by man. Participants should dress warmly for this holiday season leg- stretcher. The Mdrehgo Ridge Conservation site is on Route 23, about two miles north of Marengo.
