Cash donations are also accepted, which are tax deductible. Items can be taken to the village hall every weekday except Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is good to be able to give to those in need. MEET & EAT AT MOOSE Having had problems at a location in McHenry, the Senior Citizen Meet & East Center has returned to the Moose Lodge on Route 120. With the parking area available and more comfortable surroundings, those seeking a hot meal on weekdays plus fellowship and fun will find it at the Moose. Julia Kraus, volunteer receptionist, reminds us to call at least one day in advance to make reservations for the tasty luncheon. The blood pressure screening will continue on the first Thursday of the month at 11 a.m. With the worry of getting a parking ticket removed, the center hopes more seniors will take advantage of this excellent program. GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY The parents of Bill Kmetz of Lakemoor, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kmetz, Sr., of Streator, 111., were the guests of honor at a golden wedding celebration Nov. 21. The actual date of their wedding was Nov. 15, but Bill, his brother and twin sisters opted for the Sunday celebration. Betty, Bill's wife, known for her baking and cake decorating, made the anniversary cake. Planning a cake for the anticipated 350 guests gave Betty many hours of concern. Finally, the Friday before the celebration, Betty transported the layers she had made and frozen to Streator. Saturday was spent in preparation and Betty busily set up the four tiered cake, decorating it with fresh flowers and adding the bride and groom ornament. Finally all was ready and waiting for the next day's reception, when a large thump Was heard. Alas-the two top tiers had slipped off the cake and were resting in the. frosting on the floor! Fortunately, Betty had extra layers and after repairs, two two-tiered cakes adorned the buffet table. By the time Monday morning came, Betty was ready for a rest at a health spa. The Mass in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Kmetz was a special one for them, as three grandchildren served at it, including Betty and Bill's two sons, Michael, home from Divine Word Seminary at East Troy, Wis., and John. A special attraction at the party was a "remembrance table", where wedding pictures of the celebrants, pictures of their four children and their families, and a collage of the mementos of 50 years of marriage were shown. Bill drove Mike back to school for the Sunday evening curfew and Betty drove home the next morning, carrying leftovers and many, many happy memories. Plus a firm resolve that all cakes hereafter would be only two tiers tall. BUSTER, A CHAMPION Charles Nettles of Lilymoor has a right to be proud of his apricot miniature poodle Royale Best Seller, aka Buster, who has acquired the 15 points including two major wins, needed to complete a championship. At the Lake Shore Kennel club show in Hammond, Ind., On Nov. 28, Charles as the owner and handler, received the award. Lots of work, grooming, care and love go into making a champion. Charles and his wife Marguerite enjoy traveling to the many competitions in the surrounding areas to show their poodles. It is not often that the owner of a dog also handles the dog during the trials. Congratulations to Charles and Daisy, and of course to Buster. As we adults look down the toy shelves, we cannot help but stand in awe at the great selection offered today's child, in comparison to the shelves of toys when we were children! With such a wonderful array of toys, where does one begin in selecting these gifts? You might want to take a look at the child's toy chest to see what he already has, then think of toys that will stimulate new interests and teach new "life" lessons. 1. There are toys that will promote exercise and coordination. 2. Constructive toys, to be assembled, may increase confidence in --.the things a child can do on his own. 3. A child usually wants to imitate what the grown-ups a-round him can do. Toys that have to do with real cooking, or real car penter jobs, etc., can help a child to feel he can help mom and dad around the house, thus giving him a sense of responsibility. Judge carefully - toys that are too advanced may become too frustrating; then again, if a toy is too juvenile, it loses its challenge and appeal. Each child must be considered not so much by his ' chronological age, but by his own and individual rate of emotional and physical growth. 2% gallon g Pepsi-Diet Pepsi Mt.
