MICHAEL CONLON MARRIED IN GRAYSLAKE - Dr. Michael Lee Conlon, son of Lee and Betty Conlon of Park Forest, 111. and the former Patricia Egan, daughter of Mrs. Raymond K. Egan of Syosset, N.Y., exchanged marriage vows Nov. 6, before Father Voss, at St. Gilbert's church in GrayslakcL III. Dr. Conlon is a practicing orthodontist with offices in McHenry, Richmond and Grayslake and is a member of the McHenry Chamber of Commerce. He graduated from Rich Central high school in 1968; received a D.D.S. from Illinois State University and a Master's degree and specialty training in orthodontics from the University of Illinois Medical Center. The new Mrs. Conlon graduated from New York university with a B.S. in Economics and is employed as a financial analyst for Northern Trust Co., Chicago. Following the ceremony, a reception for 80 guests was held at Glen Flora Country club in Waukegan. The newlyweds set up housekeeping in Gurnee, 111. upon their return from a honeymoon on the Caribbean island of St. Martin. Xi Kappa Iota chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its first meeting for November at the home of . Mrs. Marlene Knutilla. After the necessary reports were given and transactions taken care* of, the cultural program was presented by Mrs. Carol Ridlen on "Com munications: Public Relations and the Press". A date was set for the Friendship day, sponsored by the Executive Coordinating committee of McHenry county. Two chapters from McHenry and three from Crystal Lake were in attendance and it proved to be an enjoyable and relaxing afternoon. The second meeting of the month took place at the home of Mrs. Sue McHenry American Legion Auxiliary The November meeting of the McHenry American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 491 was called to order by President Maria Guettler after the advancement of flags; invocation by Chaplain Betty Lou Smith; singing of the "Star Spangled Banner" with Dawn LaBuy, Music chairman, at the piano; and recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. v Before the chairmen gave their reports, President Guettler appointed and installed Marge Datz as her personal appointment as assistant sergeant at arms. Americanism chairman Midge Scharf announced she will be presenting a flag to the post home. Betty Lingenfelter reported she will be updating the unit's constitution and bylaws and standing rules, made necessary by changing times. Chaplain Betty Lou Smith asked that contribution be sent to the Cathedral Window fund. National Security and Energy Conservation chairman Marie Howe, gave her report and asked the unit to contribute to the Department National Security fund which provides money for the patriotic conference and the ROTC awards to students. She also an nounced that we must continue to reduce our utility billS and car ex penses with the economy crunch of today and our natural resources dwindling. We must continue to restore, recycle and renew. Marie Howe, Rehabilitation chairman, gave her report and ex plained the Dept. 7-Point program. She also asked for volunteers to hdp at the Christmas gift shop at North Chicago VA hospital. In that program, all hospitalized veterafts may choose a gift for imme$ite family members. If the veteran j Amerson. Ways and Means chair man, Mrs. Etta McCarthy, reported that the project of selling ornaments is coming to a close with much suc cess. Mrs. Barb Kellogg, Service chairman, advised that she will be sending a check, proceeds from this year's Tag Day, to the ALS foun dation. She also reminded members to get their.clothes and toys together to be donated to the families that were chosen. Food baskets will also be prepared to be presented for the holidays. The cultural 'program was presented by Mrs. Karen Coiomer on "Fine Arts: Literature". MICHAEL WEGENER AND KAREN GRAEF ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT -- The Reverend and Mrs. Herman Graef of McHenry announce the engagement of their daughter, Karen Lynn, to Michael S. Wegener, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Wegener, also of McHenry. The bridegroom is presently aboard the U.S.S. Roanoke, based in San Francisco, Calif. Edie Rourke, Junior Activities chairman, planned a junior meeting Nov. 20, and hoped that the program can be active again, but it can't be done if the juniors do not attend the meetings. The junior members will be guests of the auxiliary at the an nual potluck Christmas dinner Dec. 20,6:30 p.m., at the post home. Mrs: Rourke should be contacted by Dec. 13 if a junior member plans to attend. Pearl Cooper, Coupon chairman, asked members to save certain stamps and coupons. A contribution was given to the Coupon program and funds will be used for the department president special project, which is Scholarships. A contribution was ( given to the Pilot Dog Foundation. The cost of a dog and training is now $3015. J President Guettler gave a report on the Veterans Day program held at the McHenry Legion Post Home. It was a very impressive program with 80 students from East and West campus performing under the direction of John Leighty and BUI Toalson. A salute loathe veterans was given by the rifle squad of McHenry Post 491. A citation was received from the Department Commander Larry Besson for the unit's contribution to the Gift to Yanks Who Gave program. Other donations were made to Department Education fund; National President project; Special Olympics and DuPage-McHenry County Lung association. The annual potluck Christmas party will be held Monday, Dec. 20. Members are to bring a dish to pass for the 6:30 p.m. dinner, and also a "white elephimt" in holiday wrap for the games. Refreshment chairmen will be Marie Howe and Edie Rourke and their committee. Evelyn Osmon and Ruth Mrachek were winners of veteran craft prizes. Mayme King was not present to receive the attendance prize. An niversary greetings were extended to Betty Lingenfelter. League Topic, Nutrition- Weaning Nutrition and Weaning is the topic for the McHenry-Fox Lake La Leche League meeting to be held Wed nesday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. Somfe of the points of discussion will be the league's belief that breast milk is the superior infant food and the increased awareness in good nutrition for the entire family. WILLIAM RUGGERO MARRIED IN UTAH - Memory Grove Park, Salt Lake City, Utah, was the setting for the Sept. 18 wedding, uniting in marriage the former Grace Louise Ramos and William Santo Ruggero. The bride i$ the daughter of Dave and Donna Ramos of Salt Lake City. Dr. and Mrs. Santo Ruggero , 4712 E. Lakeshore drive, Wonder Lake, are the parents of the bridegroom. The 9:30 a.m. nuptials were officiated by the Reverend Louis Gonzoles and a reception was held at the Golden Reception Center in Salt Lake City. The groom graduated from Marian Central Catholic high school in 1974 and received a degree in Biology from Ripon college. The newlyweds are presently students at the University of Utah and reside in Salt Lake City. Landmark Holiday Fund Raiser m MAYORS' CHRISTMAS PARTY The McHenry County Municipal association will hold its regular monthly meeting and Christmas party Dec. 15 at John Evans Inn, Crystal Lake. The program for the evening will be presented by the swing choir of Cary Grove high school. Pictured left to right are Landmark kindergartners, Ed Young and Sara Schlinder, trying to decide which books they will buy at the Book Fair, part of the Landmark Holiday Fund Raiser. The fair is offering early childhood primary books at reasonable prices and the event is scheduled for Dec. 8 and 9, from 4 to 9 p.m., at Landmark school. The public is cordially invited to attend.
