Friday, the Skyhawks traveled to Wauconda for a double dual with the Bulldogs and Ridgewood Johnsburg had an easy time with Ridgewood 42- 17, but Wauconda had an easy time with the Skyhawks 49-14. Saturday, the Skyhawks par ticipated in the Richmond-Burton Classic Wrestling Tournament. They finished seventh in the nine team tourney. Wauconda captured the meet. "I believe we are wrestling well and improving, but I was not at all satisfied with our first round per formance at the Richmond Tour nament," said Johnsburg Coach Don March. "We have a great challenge ahead of us with our conference and we must work just that much harder, realy don't believe- many people realize how strong the Northwest Suburban is." Against Ridgwood, three Skyhawks scored pins. At 96 pounds, Guy Bazilewich pinned Mark Chrisowsky, (Continued from page 6) mistakes," said Harbecke. "Morraine Valley has an excellent team, but they are not 40 points better than we are. I think once our team settles down and adjusts to playing college level basketball we will be in good shape." Harbecke praised Schachtner on controlling the team on the floor and on his fine shooting. "We did beat Morraine Valley on rebounding, especially the offensive rebounds." Harbecke feels the efforts of Dave Witt, Mark Wilkinson and Steve Murphy were responsible for the difference in the rebound statistics. Harbecke says he will be sticking with the man-to-man pressure defense and running the controlled break. "We have to work on our timing and accuracy, so we canexecute the plays better," concluded Harbecke. The Scots will host the Kishwaukee Cougars in their opener Saturday afternoon at McHenry County College. Last year MCC split with Kishwaukee in two very close games. However, the Scots will have their work cut out for them as Kishwaukee has already chalked up a win against the Skyway conference powerhouse Elgin Community College. New Floor For Marian • I ' Marian Central Catholic High School has a newly refinished gym' floor for the 1982-83 season. The original inch thick hardwood floor was sanded this past summer and about one-quarter inch was removed from its surface. Three ride- on sanding machines, with three different grades of sandpaper, ground away on the floor for a week,. removing the old finish and marks to produce the smooth new surface. It was the second time in 23 years the floor has had major sanding, although each year the floor is stripped and refinished. According to the experts, the present gym floor could be sanded at least three more times before it would need replacing. Scott Lehman pinned John Patrick at 105 pounds and Mike Hurckes pinned Scott Sotberry at 138 pounds. Hurckes was named wrestler of the week by March. Overall, Hurckes was undefeated for the weekend. Against Wauconda, he tied John Cashmore 5-5 and out- wrestled three other opponets in the Richmond tournament to win the championship in the 138 pound class. Marmion Edges Marian SHAW MEDIA NEWS SERVICE AURORA -- Marian Central Coach Hans Rokus was angry and his comments were blunt following the Hurricanes 53-51 loss to Marmion Friday. "We gave it away," he said. "We had sloppy play at the end, some missed free thows, some poor defensive plays and some poor shots. There was a little bit of everything there. It was a tough one. We just gave it away." The visiting Hurricanes led by as many as 10 points in the second quarter and eight points in the third, saw Marmion slowly catch up and overtake Marian when Steve Rowley tallied with 23 seconds remaining. Guard Ed Kennedy paced the Hurricanes with 20 points. "We'll be anxiously awaiting them at our palce," said Rokus. "We've got a score to settle with them." Marmion visits Marian on Jan. 21. The loss dropped the Hurricanes to 1-3 overall. The 'Canes will try to get back on track this Friday at home against Montini.
