PAGE 8 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNKSDAY, DECEMBER 15,1982 Hurricane Girls Win The Battle Of The Unbeaten WOODSTOCK -- Marian Central outscored Harvard 17-6 in the second quarter and rQUed on for a 48-33 win in a battle between unbeaten girls basketball teams Monday. The win was the Hurricanes fourth straight. Harvard fell to 3-1. Nancy Walsh paced Marian's attack with 14 points, while Holly Ryan added 12 and Beth Lango contributed eight. Lori Kramarczyk topped the Hornets with 14 points while Traci Jones had six and Lynell Lahner chipped in four. Marian led 6-4 after one quarter ana 23-10 at halftime. Harvard cut the lead to 11 points at 34-23 by the end of the third period, but the Hurricanes outpointed the visitors 14-10 in the closing quarter. V "We were anticipating a good game," said Hurricane coach Don Penza. "They have all their girls back from last year. (But) our advantage was the home court. "I'm pleasantly surprised that the Warrior Frosh-Soph Wrestlers Finish 2nd gals are responding as well as they are," he added. "Our girls are im­ proving each game and that's most encouraging." Harvard took the frosh-soph game 38-36 in overtime. Crown finished first with 175'^ points, followed by McHenry 146'^ points. Round Lake in third with 95. c Tom Wrona, Jeff Schuster, Dan Parasi and Mike Lobinsky all brought back first place trophies for their individual efforts. Wrona at 105 pounds scored two falls and then a 5-4 decision over Mark Oritz of Crown to win in his weight class. Oritz is now 8-0 for the season. Schuster at 119 pounds used three falls, including a 2:40 pin over Tom Keath of Crown to top his class. Schuster has a 7-1-1 record so far. Also scoring three pins, Parisi at 126 pounds pinned Dave Bartels of Grayslake in the final round match. The freshman has a record of 7-0 -- all pins. Lobinsky, wrestling at unlimited, is 4-0 so far. He also scored three falls at the tournament, overpowering Ed Simmons of Libertyville in the third period. taking second place honors was Dave Sikorski at 185 pounds. Chris Creutz at 132 pounds and Dennis Gaines at 155 pounds both earned third place ribbons. X-C Session Two indoor cross country pre-ski sessions are being sponsored by the McHenry County Conservation District. The 90 minute sessions will include a film on cross country skiing, discussion on clothing and general questions and answers. The first session will be held at the former S p o r t s m e n ' s C l u b building in Woodstock City Park on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. An identical session will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Harvard Sportsmen's Club on the east side of Route 14, a quarter mile south of Harvard. Intended as an in­ troduction to cross country skiing or a brushup for the more experienced skier, the sessions are free of charge and no prior r e g i s t r a t i o n i s necessary. And what a lesson the Skyhawks received. They lost 69-0 to Antioch Friday. The Sequoits are the number one rated team in class A. I'm real happy with the kids," said March. "If you want to get any better, who have to wrestle somebody that is better than you. Antioch didn't help themselves, because they wrestled somebody with less skills. "This is the first time in 10 years I have been coaching that I got ' sKtinked. It was taken very well by our kids None of our kids dissapointed us.' Saturday, the Skyhawks had an easier time, finishing seventh in the St. Francis Tournament. Lisle won the meet with 157 points, followed by Montini with 141 Vfe and Sandwich with 97. Johnsburg had 46 points. None of the Skyhawks were unable to capture a championship, but Mike Hurckes came the closest with a third place at 138 pounds. lie defeated Carl Ginwuch of Walther Lutheran 12-6, but lost to Jon Faragoi of Montini in the second round 7-3. He came back in the third round to defeat Steve Van- Byssun of Timothy Chris tain 6-4. Hurckes also' drew praise from March in his match against Antioch.
