WONDER LAKE Aflne Sowers 653-9549 LCW Christmas Party Tonight The December meeting of the Lutheran Church Women (LCW) will be held tonight, Dec. 15, in the church hall at 8 p.m. Members are asked to bring a wrapped Christmas gift in the amount of $1 which will be brought to Valley-Hi Nursing home. It should be labeled man or woman. Each member is ifso asked to bring six dozen cookies, all the same kind, which will be used in a cookie exchange. This wajr, everyone will go home with a variety of Christmas cookies. This is the meeting where new of­ ficers are also elected. If you would like ,to be an officer, you are to contact Pastor Olson. Everyone is invited to join the Sunday school classes as they decorate the Christmas tree on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. Each "family is also encouraged to share a special Christmas treat from their ethnic heritage if possible at the fellowship time following the program. Mark them with your family name and country of origin and any other significant meaning that the treat holds. As a feeling of giving at Christmas time, the children are asked to bring a present to be placed under the tree, such as mittens, scarfs, socks, etc. that will be given to people in need. The youth group, those from grades 5-12, are planning a cookie bake and caroling Dec. 19. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. There will be two worship services on Christmas eve, one at 7:30 p.m. and the'dUier at 10:30 j>.m. ELECTED TREASURER , Joe Sullivan, Jr., has recently been elected treasurer of the Marquette university Sailing club. Joe, who has been active in the Wonder Lake Yacht club for many years, joined the Sailing club last year as a freshman. BUSY GREENWOOD STUDENTS All schools are alive with activities this time of year, but the fifth grade students at Greenwood school are working hard preparing for their program to be given Friday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. in the school gym. The chorus will be traveling to Memorial Hospital for McHenry County on Dec. 15 to sing from 4 to 5 p.m. All students from grades 1-5 and the afternoon kindergarten will hold an all-school sing on Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. Parents and friends are invited to hear the beautiful little voices singing Christmas carols. SPECIAL DAYS , The youngest of the Hanlev^elan, Erin will be celebrating hel-6leventh birthday on Dec. 17. She will be taking part in the Greenwood Christmas program that night, too, so her day will be extra special. On Dec. 18, Cindy Spencer will be celebrating her big twenty-first birth­ day. Finally legal! Our little Wonder Woods Christmas angel, Gina Rizzo, daughter of Dan and Barb Rizzo, will be blowing out four candles this year on Dec. 19. Also, on Dec. 19, our Patrick will be celebrating his eleventh birthday. It's funny how the kids get older, but Mom and Dad stay the same! As of Dec. 20, Wonder Lake will have a new driver on the roads! Chris Brown, of Mill Gardens will be turning 16 on that day. Bender,102 E. Navajo trail, McHenry, has been selected for participation in Coe college's new Partners program. The Coe Partners program establishes "junior-senior" part­ nerships between Coe students and college trustees. The program was developed to provide students with the benefits that come from individual contact with persons established in their careers and communities. Bender, a Coe junior majoring in Chemistry, has been active with Coe's student senate, radio station, Chemistry club, Physics club, and Admissions department. They are sponsoring a program to benefit- the FISH food pantry in McHenry as replacement of the usual grab bag gift program in each classroom. This week there will be a Christmas tree for each grade, under which the students can leave their gifts. FISH volunteers will distribute them before Christmas to brighten the holdays for the needy in the.area. Each child may bring as many items designated for the particular grade as he wishes.
