The pouring out of love that has already been seen is heart-warming. Children, who want to share the spirit of Christmas, have been looking through their outgrown toys and bundling them up for other younger children. Neighbors and friends have been calling both Gabby,, the CB Santa and myself, adding names to the list of RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE-BUI Cristy, Wonder Lake, center, completed nine years of service as a board member during the McHenry FS annual meeting. Stanley Steagall, general manager, and Richard Walters, president, Joined in the recognition accorded the retiring director. Holiday Traffic Fatality Estimate The National Safety Council estimates that between 300 and 400 persons may die in traffic accidents over the Christmas holiday weekend, and between 14,000 and 19,000 may suffer disabling injuries.. In addition, the Council estimates that between 300 and 400 persons may die during the New Year's holiday weekend, and between 14,000 and 19,000 may suffer disabling injuries. The three-day Christmas holiday begins at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, and ends at midnight, Sunday, Dec. 26. The New Year's holiday begins at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 30, and ends at midnight, Sunday, Jan. 2. Last year during the Christmas holiday weekend, 354 persons died and 16,500 persons were seriously injured in traffic accidents. During the New Year's weekend 338 persons died and 15,800 were seriously injured. The National Safety Council en courages persons who attend holiday parties to drink moderately, if at all, if they plan to drive. If a group of per sons goes to a party together, one person should be the "designated driver". That person should refrain from drinking, and be responsible for driving everyone home. In addition, travelers are urged to drive defensively, obey the posted speed limit, allow extra travel time, and use safety belts.
