With over 130 bands entered. Bill, of Fritzsche's Estates, and Keith Baran and Scott Freund of McHenry, did not know how they would rate. What a thrill when Bill heard Keith's composition, "Mystical Lady", with his own voice doing all the. vocals, coming across the air waves. Keith" heard it at work in a local music store, and customers were forgotten in the excitement of the moment. & The group received $500 worth %f equipment and the opportunity of entering the regional contest, which will give them more exposure and a chance at prizes including $2,000 worth of equipment. And then, hopefully, on to the national contest and big time. Peggy and Joe DeMarco, Bill's parents, were almost as thrilled as the boys. This has been the bright spot in a very sad year, having lost a brother and brother-in-law in death, and the worry for a tiny grandson who is making a valiant battle for a healthy life. May you continue adding to the beautiful sounds of our world, with the resulting recognition for all your talents. LAKEMOOR ELECTION Petitions are available at the Lakemoor village clerk's office, for anyone wishing to run for village trustee or village clerk. There are four openings for trustees, three for four-year terms and one to fill an unexpired two-year term. The village clerk opening is to complete unex­ pired two-year term. The clerk's office is open Monday, Tuesday. Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p m. All petitions must be filed with the county clerk by Jan. 31, accompanied by an ethics statement. LILYMOOR ACTIVITIES The Lilymoor association had another successful fund raiser Dec. 11. Laura Meyer said the ladies outdid themselves with baking for the sale. Over $100 was earned through their work and donations. The association is happy with the effort, time and money donated, and mostly for the talent of such good cooks. Star and Dean Mitchell have left the community. Their youngest daughter, Rose Marie, would have celebrated her first birthday here on Dec. 28. Star was well known in our area for keeping many of the ladies well coiffed. May their new home be a happy one, with many caring friends. Dues are due for 1983 on Jan. 1 of next year. Some members of the association have not paid for 1982 as yet, which will cut down on the snow plowing this winter which is paid for by the association. Without this money, there will be no community services. By everyone carrying a piece of the load, it will be much lighter. CELEBRATIONS AT " CHRISTMASTIME Birthdays that coincide with Christmas celebrations often find those a year older receiving just one gift instead of two. We hope the following birthday children receive their full share of both presents! Linda Garbacz celebrates on the 23rd of December. Christmas eve is a busy time for some one besides Santa Claus. Angie Charsha, the joyous little pixie from Fritzsche Estates, will be 7 years old. Denise Brizzi of Lilymoor just doubles Angela's years, as she will be 14. And Teddy Dawdy of Lilymoor also was a Christmas eve baby. Christmas day finds Lakemoor represented by Maynard Johnson, who will be 86 years old. Maynard still manages for himself. JUDGE HONORED Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brady of Lakemoor were very pleased to read of the honor given to their son, Judge Terrence Brady of Waukegan. The Waukegan News Sun recognized Judge Brady 's work as an authority in the Small Claims court with a front page article. It is always good to receive public recognition for one's abilities. It is even more exciting when a relative is honored. CHRISTMAS BASKET DONATIONS COLLECTED The food, money and gifts collected in the business places and village hall in Lakemoor have been turned over to FISH in McHenry to avoid duplication, and to make sure all persons in need receive something for Christmas. The deliveries were made Sunday, Dec. 19. By caring for others, the true spirit of Christmas is felt by the whole community. Donations for Thanksgiving in Lakemoor were delivered by residents of Lakemoor. Laura Meyer of Lilymoor is one of our area people who will be helping the deliveries. Myidred Rowe of Lakemoor has given of her knitting talent to make some of the slippers, stockings and scarves the Willing Workers have contributed. May everyone who follows the Lord's second commandment of "Love your neighbor as yourself", and gives, with or without recognition, have the joy and peace He promises in the birth of His son, Jesus. GOD BLESS / ^ Death Toll For November At 107 The superintendent of Illinois State police, Ronald J. Miller, has an­ nounced the latest figures which in­ dicate that during the month of November, 107 persons died from injuries sustained from traffic ac­ cidents on Illinois streets and high­ ways. State police, District 2, which covers Lake, McHenry, DeKalb, Kane and DuPage counties, reports 233 persons have been killed in these counties since Jan. 1 of 1982. Two hundred and forty persons were also killed during the same period in 1981 in these counties. ̂ A breakdown of the counties for statistics in November of 1982 shows Lake county had nine fatalities; McHenry, three; DuPage county, nine; Kane county, four; and DeKalb county, none. St. Paul Episcopal At St. Paul Episcopal church, the Christmas eve services will include children's Eucharist at 6 p.m., and a congregational sing at 10 p.m., followed by choral Eucharist and sermon at 10:30 p.m. On the Feast of the Nativity, Dec. 25, Holy Eucharist and a sermon will be offered at 10 a.m. There will be an all parish Eucharist at 9 a.m. on the first Sunday after Christmas, Dec. 26. St. Mary Catholic At St. Mary Catholic church, there will be both 5 p.m. (Marioleers singing), and 7:30 p.m. Masses Friday, Dec. 24, that fulfill the Christmas holy day obligation. The late evening service Dec. 24 will begin with carols at 11:15 p.m., followed by midnight Mass. Christmas day Masses will be of­ fered on the regular Sunday schedule of Masses. The 9:30 a.m. Mass will be sung by the St. Mary's adult choir. The week started with a penance service Tuesday, Dec. 21. On Thur­ sday, there will be confessions from 3 to 4 p.m., and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Shepherd of the Hills Special Christmas services have been planned at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry. On Friday, Dec. 24, Christmas eve PRICES GOOD WHILE communion candlelight services will be held at 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. The children's choir, under the direction of Dawn LaBuy, will provide special music at the 7:30 p.m. worship ser­ vice. The senior choir, under the direction of Eleanor Johannsen and accompanied by Rosemary Schneider, as well as the handbell choir, directed by Dawn LaBuy, will provide special music at the 11 p.m. worship service. The services will conclude with the congregation singing "Silent Night, Holy Night" with the sanctuary darkened except for the light provided by the candles. On Saturday, Dec. 25, a Christmas day festival communion service will beheldat 10 :30 a.m., and will include a handbell solo by Dawn LaBuy. Pastor Roger Schneider will speak on the theme, "God Has Acted!" at all three special services. On Sunday, Dec. 26, worship services will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. with the sermon theme being "God's Love Is Unconditional!" Sunday school will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. for children and adults. As part of the Christmas celebration, the congregation has supplied Christmas gifts for 50 needy inner-city children through Holy Family Lutheran church at Cabrini Green in Chicago. Pastor Charles Infelt of Holy Family Lutheran church hosts a Christmas Darty for needy children, and Shepherd of Hills Lutheran church provides tl gifts. Also, as a part of sharing the spirit of Christmas, throughout the year, the congregation provided food and other lfie essentials for 20 McHenry area families. In addition, 10 Christmas food baskets to needy area families will be given as well. Members of the community are welcome to attend all worship ser­ vices and congregational events at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church. St. Patrick The Christmas week at St. Patrick Catholic church started with a communal penance service Monday evening. On Christmais eve, Dec. 24, Masses will be offered at 5 and 7 p.m. and again at midnight, when a half hour of carols by an adult choir will precede the 12 o'clock rite. Christmas day Masses are at 7:15, 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. There will be no confessions heard Friday, Dec. 24. Participants In School Debate At the fourth annual McHenry high school debate tournament held recently, five local students were entered in the Lincoln-Douglas debate. It was the first time this type debate was included in the tour­ nament competition. ftls a "one on one" argumentation where the debaters attempt to con­ vince the judge of the acceptability of their side of a proposition of value. Local students involved were Paul Westphal, Mike Meyer, Michelle Smith, Susie Wipper and Tony Gur- ske.
