s>tes5> - •> Ice Fishing On McCullom Lake College Honors MCC Honor Roll Announced For Cindy Freund Doctoral Study Ends Cindy Freund, daughter of Agnes and Gus Freund, 1505 Val court, McHenry, recently completed doc toral study at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The degree was conferred jointly by the School of Business and the School of Public Health. Cindy received her Baccalaureate degree in nursing from Marquette university in 1963 and her Master's degree, from the University of North Mid-Year MCC Graduates Named McHenry County college students may complete their graduation requirement during any semester. Although only one graduation ceremony is conducted each year at the end of the spring semester, students participate in the exercises regardless of which semester they complete their requirements. Three On Purdue Honor Listing A total of 3,299 Purdue university students received distinguished- student rank for the fall semester of the 1982-83 school year. The students represented, scholastically, ap proximately the top 12 percent of the 27,252 undergraduates on the West Lafayette campus during the first semester. In order to qualify for distinguished ranking, a student must have a grade index of at least 5.5 (B+) of a possible 6 (A) in no less than 14 academic Carolina school of nursing at Chapel Hill in 1973. Upon completion of her Ph.D., Cindy joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She is directing a new program at the university co- sponsored by the school of nursing and the Wharton school. Universi ty Honor Status For Three Students from McHenry were among some 1,590 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater students who were named to the honor roll for academic achievement for first semester of the 1982-83 school year. Students on the honor roll must have a semester grade point average of at least 3.4 on a scale on which 4.0 is equal to "A." They also must have carried at least 12 credits with no grade below "C." ON DEAN'S LIST Sandra Kay Gilbert, 608 Silbury court, a freshman, has been named to the Dean's list at Knox college for the fall term, 1982. A minimum grade point average of 3.67 on a 4.0 scale is required, among other factors, for inclusion on the list. Derby A pair of fishermen head for a vacant spot on the lake, while others (in background) have already begun their attempt at getting a nibble In the comfort of a home-made hut, eleven-year-old Marcus Seifert, of McCullom Lake, caught a bucket of tiny perch during his first hour and half of .fisherman's luck at the derby. ^ McCULLOM LAKE -- If you had gone past McCyllom Lake last weekend and thought you saw a shanty town on the lake, you were not seeing things. The ninth annual McCullom Lake Fishing Derby was held Saturday and Sunday on McCullom Lake. The event is sponsored by the McCullom Lake Conservation Club and all proceeds are used in the management of the lake. « Because of the warmer than usual weather, a good turnout was reported for both days according to club of ficials. People of air ages ; men apd women, were seen on the ice in make shift shantys. Some didn't have any kind of shanty and one man brought his snowmobile out on the ice to sit on. The ice was only eight to 10 inches thick, but that didn't stop anyone. The 1983 derby was labeled a suc cess by Julian Seifert, a club director. "This has been the best year for the biggest fish. It really has been ex citing for us." A total of 28 northern pikes were caught over the weekend. All 28 were over the legal 24 inch size. The average size, according to club president Harvey May, was 26 inches. The largest northern was caught by Jerry Reycraft of McHenry. His northern was weighed in at five pounds-8 ounces. May also reported that eight keeper size bass were caught. It was also reported that the largest perch was 9.3 inches, the largest bluegill was 7.1 inches and the largest crappie was 10 inches. Seifert added the majority of the fish caught over the weekend were fish staked just a few years ago. The smallest fish turned in was also recorded. Daniel Boone, an eight- year-old from McHenry was the winner catching a 2.1 inch V4 ounce bullhead. John Jepsen, a 13-year-old, caught the smallest perch at 2.8 inches.
